SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504.725, dated September 12, 1893.
Application filed December 15, 1892 To add whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, HENRY HALL, of Hill City, county of Pennington, and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Godevils, of which the followingls a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
llhe object of my invention is to provide suitable and convenient means for preventing lnguries to the main track or other machinery when blasts are fired in the bottom of a mine.
My invention in the main consists in aseparate movable section of track or godevil, whlch may be lifted out ofreach of the shots, and which maybe conveniently lowered again for use as a permanent track.
My invention is specially applicable to use in inclined shafts, but may be applied to any use to which it is adapted.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 shows the godevil in position in the bottom of a track. Fig. 2 shows it in position for being hoisted out. Fig. 3 shows it separated from the skip and supported above the bottom of the track. Fig.4 is a central vertical section on the line a, a of Fig. 1, showing also the skip upon the godevil. Fig. 5 isaside elevatron of the godevil detached. Fig. 6 is an end view of one of the noses which guide the godevil on the main track. Fig. 7 shows in cross section the relative position of the godevil and niain track. Fig. Sis a side elevation of the sup. Referring to the figures on the drawings, 1 indicates a track of any suitable and ordinary construction carried in any suitable manner, as upon stringers 2 and cross pieces 3. steadily and evenly along the same. The side pieces are united by an end cross piece 10 and by a bail 11 pivoted near the central part of the godevil. The bottom flanges of the side pieces are cutaway, as indicated at 12, to permit the oscillation of the bail. The bail is depressed in its middle part, as illustrated, and is designed to permit the free movement over it of the skip. As illustrated in Fig. 7 of the drawings, the inner sides of the top flanges of the main track rails and the godevil side pieces are in vertical alignment, so that the skip moves with equal precision upon either the main track or the godevil.
13 indicates apertures in the sides of the bail, to which a bail-chain 14 is attached.
15 indicates a chain provided with hooks 16 at its opposite ends, which are designed to hook into the bail-chain and into an eyelet 17 in the bottom of the skip respectively.
In operation the godevil is fastened to the bottom of the skip by the chain 15, and both are lowered by gravity to the bottom of the shaft. The end of the main track does not reach to the bottom of the shaft by nearly the length of the godevil, and the latter fills up the intervening space when lowered, as in the manner above described. When the godevil has reached the bottom of the shaft, the chain 15 is unhooked from the bail and from the skip, the bail swings into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 4: of the drawings, and the skip may descend to the bottom of the shaft upon the godevil passing over the bail, as illustrated in the latter figure. When it is desired to blast in the bottom of the shaft, the chain 15 is again hooked to the godevil and to the bottom of the skip, and the two are drawn up again a suitable distance. When the godevil has been raised a sufficient dis tance a supporting piece 18 may be inserted underneath the cross-piece, and the godevil held in position. After the shot has been fired, the chain 15 may be again attached to the godevil and the skip and the godevil lowcred as before.
I desire it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the details of construction herein described, but. desire to reserve theright to vary themat will within the scope of my invention.
What I claim is- 1. The combination with amain track, of a godevil consisting of side pieces and noses thereon for guiding the sameuponithemain.
