Description
L. E. LOVE]. 1
SSSSSS TTAGHMENT.
No. 504,356. Patented Sept. 5, 1893 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS E. LOVE, OF PADUOAH, KENTUCKY.
STOVE ATTACH M EN'T.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,356, dated September 5, 1893.
Application filed $eptember 22, 1892. Serial No. 446,584- (No model.)
ful Improvements in Stove Attachments; and 1 I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of referencemarked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to that particular class of stove attachments wherein the door may be partially opened and held in such position by means of a rack-bar and lever.
The object of my invention is to produce a stove atttachment that will occupy less space than those heretofore used, and also one that will reduce the strain upon the oven door.
With these objects in view, my invention consists in the peculiar features of construc tion and combinations of parts as will be more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawing represents a perspective view of my stove, to which the attachments are applied.
The reference letter a represents the stove casing, provided at its front with the usual oven-door I), being hinged at its lower edge to swing outwardly and downwardly.
In the casing proper and situated directly above the center of the door, is a recess 0 adapted to receive a vertically movable catch (1, which moves and is guided between the inner and outer plates of the oven-door b. The catch extends downward to a point below the center of the door, and its lower end is slightly bent outward and passes through a hole 6 in the outer plate. To the lower end of the catch is loosely fastened a link f, its free end being secured to a vertical arm 9, the opposite end of which arm is fastened to a square-sided horizontal rock-bar h journaled in brackets i secured to the front casing of the stove. One end of this horizontal rod It extends beyond the side of the stove, and has secured thereto a crank 70, to the free end of which is fixed a curved link I. An actuating lever m is pivoted to the casing at n, and its lower end is secured to the free end of the link Z. The upper end of the lever is provided with the usual handle 0 and trip lever 19, the pawl of which engages teeth q in the curved rack-bar r supported by a shelf and bracket secured to the stove casing.
The stove is provided with the usual shelves, ash-pans, grate shakers, &c.,but none of which forms a part of my invention.
The'operation of my invention is as follows: We will assume that the door is closed and locked, the catch at being in engagement with the recess 0, and it is desired to open the same. ,The pawl of the trip lever 17 is disengaged from the teeth q of the rack-bar r, and the actuating lever is then free to be moved. The lever is then pulled forward throwing the lower end in and moving the crank it in the direction of the arrow by means of the link Z. As the crank is fixed to the horizontal rock-bar h, the latter will be rotated and will force the vertical arm 9 away from the door, which movement will draw downupon the vertical catch 61 and release its upper end from the recess 0, thus allowing the door to swing outwardly and downwardly until it is stopped by the vertical arm g. By this means the door can be partially or en.- tirely opened at the will of the operator.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a stove, the combination with a door of a vertically movable catch, a horizontal rock-bar located at the bottom of the door and actuated by a lever, a vertical arm rising from said bar and a link connecting the lower end of the catch with the arm, whereby the door and catch may be moved, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a door, of a vertically movable catch, a hole in said door through which the catch extends, a horizontal rock-bar actuated by a lever, and a vertical arm rising from said bar, and connected to said catch whereby the catch is released when the horizontal bar is rotated, substan-
