FRINGE OR TRIMMING HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,752, dated August 22, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, J ULIUs M. SOHLESINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San J os, Santa Clara county, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Fringe or Trimming Holders; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention relates to a device for holding fringe, trimming, and other material which is usually sold in considerable lengths, and which it is advisable to wind smoothly upon cards.

It consists essentially of thin fiat boards with end posts into which they are fitted,

transverse studs projecting from these endposts, and slotted standards in which the studs aresupported, and in certain details of construction which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front View of my device arranged in steps. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 shows the cards suspended from the movable arms. Fig. 4 is an end view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail of the studs and their connection.

The object of my invention is to provide an easily adjustable device, upon which the cards containing articles to be inspected are suspended and from which they are easily removable for exhibition and inspection.

A is a base and B B are standards fixed to said base, and of sufficient height to support the flatcards C. These cards are made of a length and width sufficient to allow the material to be Wound upon them, and they are fitted at each end into mortises made in the end posts D. These posts are made square, or of any suitable or desired shape, having the ends projecting slightly beyond the sides of the board with ornamental terminations of any description. These posts serve to retain the material upon the card, and prevent its slipping 01? over the ends, and also for the attachment of projecting knobs or studs E by which the cards are suspended. These suspending studs are made with channels or grooves adapted to fit in corresponding slots 11 of the supporting standards. In the present case I have shown one of the studs formed with a square shank e which passes through the end post, which is mortised to receive the shank. The outer end of the shank is turned down and screw-threaded to receive the opposite stud which is screwed upon it, so that the shank is drawn snugly into the wood, and the flanges of the studs upon each side, fitting against the sides of the-post, serve to hold it and prevent its moving.

In Fig. 1, I have shown the standards having the slotted heads fixed to their upper ends at a point high enough so that when one of the cards is placed upon the standards, its opposite ends will be supported in the slots which are nearest together. The next adjacent card will have one of its ends supported in the other slot of the standard, and the other end in the next standard, and so on, making as many cards in a row as may be desired.

The outer standards, or those at the ends of the rows, may be made single, as shown, having but one end of a card to sustain.

The base or support of the standards may, if desired, be arranged in steps as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and one series of standards arranged upon the lower step, a second series upon the next behind, and so on, rising one above the other, thus allowing the exhibition of a great quantity of stock in a comparatively small space.

In Fig. 3 I have shown a single standard having a cross arm G, with the slotted ends adapted to receive the studs or hangers at the ends of the card. This cross-bar is preferably made adjustable for height by means of a set screw H passing through it, and screwing against the vertical standard, upon which the cross-bar is slidable up and down. By this construction, the suspension arms may be adjusted to suit cards of difierent lengths, and the cards are in this case suspended by one end, one card being hung upon each end of the supporting arm.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A card-holder for trimmings having transverse perforations made'centrally in the posts at the opposite ends, shanks fitting the perforations and studs projecting from the ends of the shank, in combination with vertical standards with slotted arms adapted to rewhereby the holders are-removably suspended from the standards, substantially as here-.{; in described.
