I. M. BLAMYER'.
MEAT BROILER.
Q MK.
um/Mow fimmsjZE/wrgyew 767W mozmm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCES MILWARD BLAMYER, OF OLEMA, CALIFORNIA.
MEAT-BROILER.
SPECIFICATION forming .part of Letters Patent No. 503,307, dated August 15, 1893.
Application filed August 23, 1892- Serial No. 443,907. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCES MILWARD BLAMYER, of Olema, in the county of Marin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Broilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in meat-broilers and its object is to provide a simple, eflicient and inexpensive broiler, the size of the opening in which can be adjusted to conform to the size of the piece of meat or other object to be broiled, and thereby regulate the draft and prevent smoke from passing up around the article being broiled and filling the room.
My invention more particularly resides in the novel combination, construction and arran gement of parts hereinafter fully specified and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved broiler. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the broiler with the sliding pieces removed. Fig. 3 isa section through the line a: as, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is plan view of one of the side pieces.
A is the main part of the broiler made of.
sheet metal and oblong in shape with its sides 13 turned as shown in Fig. 3, to form guides into which the thin metal pieces 0 slide. The bottom of the main part A contains a series of parallel slats D. The sliding pieces 0 are forked at one end E and curved at its inner end as shown in Fig. 4:. The two pieces 0 are made exactly alike and. are adapted to slide one above the other in the groove formed by the sides of the piece A, as shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
It is readily seen from the above description that the size of opening above the parallel slots D can be adjusted by sliding the pieces 0 toward or from each other as it is de sired to diminish or increase the size of the opening.
By means of my device meat can be more evenly broiled than by means of the broilers now in use, as the draft is regulated and the flame and smoke prevented from passing through the broiler and thereby burning the edges of the object being broiled.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The herein described improved broiler consisting of a Hat rectangular base of sheet metal with longitudinal slats extending longitudinally thereof and terminating inside of the opposite ends and turned up sides which are bent over in opposite directions to form guides, and a pair of independent slides entering said guides of the base from opposite ends and having their inner opposing ends provided with arms that overlap and which are located on opposite sides of curved recesses which unite to form a single central opening which is adapted to be increased or decreased in accordance with the adjustment of the slides, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscr1bing witnesses.
FRANCES MILWARD BLAMYER.
