SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,749, dated August 8, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS J. OEHRING, a
citizen of the United States, residingat Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Circuit-Closers, (Case No.2,) of which the following is a' full, clear, concise, and exact description,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. 7
My invention relates to push keys and is especially designed to be used at the different floors of a building as apart of an electric elevator annunoiator outfit device or for a front door push or in other places accessible to malicious or mischievous persons. Heretofore the caps of such keyshave been secured to the base by being simply screwed on in the manner of a nut.
The object of my invention primarily-is to secure the cap to the base in such manner that it may be removed if desired for repairs,- yet so as to guard against the annoyance which is caused by the removal of the cap by those who are meddlesome or mischievous.
A further object of my invention is to simplify the construction of the several parts of the push key.
My invention will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a rear viewof an electric push key embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detailed central sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detailedview of the locking device showing the needle or key inserted and the cap turned .to permit of the removal thereof.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the block of insulating material onwhich the contacts are mounted. Fig. 5 isa detailed side View of the locking spring.

The cap aas shown in Fig. 2 is depressed in the centerand provided with a knob b which is adapted to be pressed in against the spring 0 to close said spring against its lower contact din the usual manner. The tension of spring 0 brings the knob back to the position shown when the finger is removed. The base e is provided with a seat f for the insulating block g. Openings h are provided in the base of the form shown; these openings are adapted to receive the'lugs t' which are providedin proper position upon the cap; the
cap, being placed upon the base so that the lugswill pass through openings h, is turned to the position shown in Fig.1 so that the cap willbe held in place by the lugs. A spring is is provided upon the base in the position shown so that one of the lugs when the cap is thus turned will come into the notch Zprovided in said spring is as shown. in Fig. 1. The cap is thus secured in place and prevented from being turned back. I provide an opening m through which a wire or key may be inserted to push in the spring 70 as shown in Fig. 3, so as to unlock the cap and permit of its being turned back to the position shown in Fig. 3 when the cap may be removed.

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent' 1. The combination with the base provided with the openings h, of the cap provided with lugs adapted to be inserted through said openings and a spring is provided with a slot Z adapted to receive one of said lugs and an opening in said cap opposite said spring, whereby the cap onits lugs being inserted through said openings and turned, is securely held in place but made readily removable on the insertion of anwire to compress said spring, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v
2. The base of a push key provided with a seat upon which rests a block of insulating material carryingthecontacts of said key, a removable cap locked to said base by a spring carried upon saidv base-and engaging with a portion of said cap and adapted to be depressed bythe insertionof awire to unlock said cap whereby the cap is unlocked, said cap provided with a knobwhich .is adapted to be pressed againsta springformingone of said contacts to close the same, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
