SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,264, dated July 25, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN H. EARLES and FRANK A. EARLES, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Denver,in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Oilers; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in oil cups or receptacles specially designed for use in connection with drilling machines whereby the necessary oil is supplied to the drill bit.
This invention is intended to provide are ular supply of oil which is continuously discharged at the point of the bit during the operation ofdrilling metal, and consists of the features, arrangements and combinations hereinafter described and claimed. 7
The improvement will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure l is aside elevation of the drill showing the oiler in position. Fig. 2 is a top view of the oiler in detail. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same. Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 00-50, Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters indicating corresponding parts or elements let the numeral 5 designate the drill generally, 6 the drill bit and 7 the plate of metal to be acted upon.
The oil receptacle 8 consists of a small box formed preferably of sheet metal and provided with an inlet 9 and an outlet 10, both controlled by Valves or cocks of ordinary construction. The receptacle is provided with a metal strap or semi-cylindrical plate 12 made fast to the top thereof for the reception of an axle or spindle 14 carried by an arm 15 made fast to the stationary framework, or
post supporting the drill. This spindle fits nicely Within its box so that it is held in frictional contact in any position to which it may be adjusted.
To the bottom of the oilbox is attached the adjustable guide plate or chute which guides the oil to the desired point upon the plate to be drilled. This plate or chute consists preferably of sheet metal and as shown in the drawings is provided With edge grooves 17 which engage side flanges 18 formed upon the bottom of the box. This plate 16 fits closely upon the box, is slidingly adjustable thereon and is maintained by frictional contact in any position in which it is placed.
In use this device is mounted or supported in suitable proximity to the drill bit and so that by proper adjustment the oil may be directed into the opening or carried to the point where the bit is acting. The outlet is so regulated by the valve that the oil passes out slowly or rapidly according to the requirements of the case.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. The adjustable oil receptacle provided with inlet and outlet openings controlled by suitable valves and an adjustable drip-plate attached to the receptacle and adapted to guide the oil to the desired point, substantially as described.
2. The oil receptacle provided with an outlet opening controlled bya suitable valve, the adjustable drip plate attached to the receptacle and adapted to guide the lubricant tothe desired point, and a supporting arm to which the receptacle is movably attached, substantially as described. I
