IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRICATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,161, dated May 28 1872; antedated May 11, 1872.
To all whom it may concerns Be it known that I, FRANK FIGHT, of Marinette, in the county of Oconto and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Automatic Lubricator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art'to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is aside elevation. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a cup or body of the apparatus; B, a cock or valve for regulating the flow of the oil or lubricant. G is a stem, with valve and hand-wheel attached, passing down through the center of the apparatus to the valve-seat e at the bottom, said valve being used for the purpose of stopping the flow of the oil. D is a guide for said valve 0, also a guard, to prevent dirt or sediment from entering into the passage E through the holes Tin said guard, the holes being placed a little above the bottom of said cup A that the sediment may lodge outside. E is a passage for the oil to flow down into the cylinder, steam passage, or where it may be required. F is a globe-valve to admit steam into the cup A, or shut off the same, when required, through the steam-passage g and tube It, said tube extending nearly to the top of cup A and above the oil, as indicated by the dotted lines in the drawing. 'i is a cock to let out the steam remaining in the cup after the other valves have been closed and before refilling with oil. K is a cover to passage L, through which the cup is filled with oil or other lubricant. M is a glass set in the side of the cup A or apparatus, for the purpose of inspecting the oil in it. N is a dialplate. 0 is a hand secured to the regulating cock or valve to indicate the position of said cock or valve, or the opening it presents for the flow of oil.
To adjust this improved lubricator for operation, I close the valves 0 and F, open the cock 1' and cover K, then fill the cup A with oil even with the top of the glass in the side of the apparatus, then close the opening or passage L with the cover K, also close the cock t. Next, I open the valve 0, allowing the steam to blow through the passage E and holes T, clearing them of any sediment or dirt that may have lodged there, depositing it outside the guard D. Then I open the valve F and let the steam pass up through the passage g and tube h to the top of the oil and create an equal pressure on the top of the oil with that in the steam-passage below. The oil will then flow down through the passage E by its own gravity into the steam-passage, in such quantity as may be desired, by adjusting the regulating-cock B.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- An automatic lubricating apparatus, consistin g essentially of the cup A provided with a cover, K, cock '5, and glass m, the stem 0 with its valve and hand-wheel, the guide D with its openings T, the valve B, oil-passage E, globe-valve F, steam-passage g, and tube It, all arranged and operating together, as and for the purpose described.
FRANK FIGHT.
