The closing of the breech is effected by turning the handle in the opposite direction, that is to say, by continuously turning the said handle in the proper direction to reproduce the above described movements in the reverse order.
Tihat I claim is 1. in abreech-loading gun, the combination with the breechscrew, of the toothed sector B, the endless screw or worm H having its axis parallel with that of the gun, and gearing with the sector B, a crank-shaft E, and the helical wheels F G, worm wheel F, and worm E for gearing the worm H with the said operating crank shaft, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the breech-screw, the carrierring hinged or pivoted to one side of the breech and through which the breechscrew can slide, the bracket D on the carrier-ringforsupporting the breech-screw when the latter is withdrawn from the breech, the toothed sector B, the endless screw or worm H, gearing with the said sector B, and supported in bearings in the bracket D with-its axis parallel to that of the gun, the crank shaft E, geared with the worm H, through a worm wheel F, and helical wheels F G, the end of the bracket D being constructed ,to form a stop to limit the sliding movement ot' the breech-screw, for the purpose specified.
