Description
(NoModeL) 0. A. HAWES. BOBBIN HOLDER. No. 501,461. Patented July 11,1893.
" NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COLIN A. HAWES, OF PAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE EASTON 85 BURNHAM MACHINE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
BOBBlN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,461, dated July 11, 1893.
Application filed January 31. 1893- To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, COLIN A. HAWES, acitizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the State of RhodeIsland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bobbin-Holders for Spoofing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the employment of a guided grav-itating arm, adapted for up and down movement to steady the bobbin at its drawing side, and produce the required uniform tension upon the unwinding yarn.
In the accompanying drawings:Figure 1, represents a side elevation of a bobbin holder provided with my improvement, and a partial section taken in the line 1, 1, of Fig. 2. Fig. 2, represents an end view of the same. Fig. 3, represents a side view and partial section showing a modification.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the trough for holding the bobbin, the said trough being provided with the recess 1) and the set screw on, for attachment to the holding rod, and with the ear 0, to which is attached the curved arm B, the said arm being provided with a slot d, and adjustably secured to the ear 0 by means of the set screw 6. The supporting arm B is provided with the downwardly extending ears f, f, which are connected to each other by means of the strengthening rib g, and are each provided with a perforation h, and a vertical slot 11. The gravitating arm 0 which is made of wire as usual, is pivoted in the perforations h, h, and the opposite gravitatiug arm 0, also made of wire is provided with the guide loops j, j, which are held loosely in the slots 2', 2', so
that while the gravitating arm 0 will have a swinging movement, the gravitating arm 0 will have an up and down movement, the loopsj,j, being caused to move up and down Serial No. 460,440. (No modeLl in the slots 11, i, by the tension of the yarn as it is being drawn from the bobbin under the horizontal bar 70 of the arm 0', the Weight of the gravitating arm 0' being thus supported by the yarn.
A modification of my invention is shown in Fig. 3, in which the gravitating arm 0 is guided in its up and down movement by the parallel portions m, m, which slide loosely through the perforations n, n, made in the earsf, f, of the curved arm B, the said gravitati-ng arm 0' being secured to the curved arm by turning the ends 0, 0, of the wire at an angle, as shown in the drawings, thus limiting the downward movement of the gravitating arm.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination with the bobbin holding trough, and the supporting arm, of the gravitatin g arm adapted for aswinging movement, and the opposite gravitating arm adapted for an up and down movement, substan-' tially as described.
2. The combination with the bobbin holding trough, and the supporting arm, of the gravitating arm, adapted for a guided up and down movement and to bear upon the yarn as it is drawn from the bobbin, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the bobbin holding trough, of the attached arm provided with the perforated and slotted ears, the gravitating arm held in the said perforations and adapted for a swinging movement, and the opposite gravitating arm held in the slots, and guided for up and down movement, substantially as described.
COLIN A. HAWES.
Witnesses: I
