SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,966, dated August 9, 18417.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN ALFRED DOBSON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Bolton, in the county of Laucaster, England, have invented certain Improvements in Machinery for Winding Yarn, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 429, bearing date January 13, 1885,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to machines for winding yarn; and it consists, chiefly, in an .improved combination and arrangement'of parts, hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims, my object being to stop the winding automatically when the yarn breaks or fails, to provide improved means for regulating the tension on the threads, and to give greater facilities for piecing up the broken threads.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whic-h' similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Having stated the nature of my invention and described the manner of performing the same, I declare that what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In yarn-winding machines, the combination, with the driving-drum, the bobbin-sup port, and the intermediate roller upon which the bobbin rests, a catch, a brake-block, and
a spring, of an oscillating needle plate or box, the needles therein, through which the threads pass on their way to the bobbin, and a revolving wing or wiper shaft acting on the needle when the threads break to move the needle box or plate and release the catch, thereby allowing the spring to operate the brake-shoe and separate the intermediate roller from the driving-drum, so as to stop the bobbin.
2. The combination, with abobbinsupport, a friction-drum, and an intermediate roller, of the drag apparatus consisting of the two bars or wires 1' and t, the tensionwire a, the wire 0, and the sliding brake-block g, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the movable bracket 0, which carries the bobbin f, of the weighted wire 0, bent at e and a, and the sliding brakebloek g, substantially as and for the purposes described, and as shown.
The foregoing specification of my improvements in machinery for winding yarn signed by me this 1st day of October, 1886.
