THOMAS C. MYERS, GI -CLEVELAND, OHIO.
STRE ET-SWEEPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,352, dated July 11, 1893.
Application filed May 2. 1892. Serial No. 431,593. (No model.)
within the housing inclosing said brush, and
means for adjusting said apron to the brush as the same may become worn.
This invention is an additional improvement appertaining to my power street sweep ing machine patented the 11th day of August, 1891, No. 457,746. I
In the accompanying drawings, Sheet 1, Figure 1 is an end elevation of the rotary brush having the said apron attached, showing the brush and apron in their normal positions. Sheet 2, Fig. 2is a like end elevation of the brush and apron, showing them adj usted to a lower position.
A, in the two figures, represents the apron composed of sheet metal, bent or curved to conform to the circumference of the brush B, and against which the ends of the bristles rub for carrying the sweepings upward and over, (the sweepings being deposited in receptacles at the back of the brush, not shown.) The apron is fastened at its lower edge, at f, to the front wall of the housing 0 which incloses the brush.
The means for adjusting the upper part of the apron may be such as described, or any other equivalent thereto. In that represented, D is a jointed coupling link or bar for suspending the upper side of the apron A to the housing, and is pivotally attached at its ends so that it may extend for bending and lowering the apron to reach the brush, or it may be folded for raising the apron, as required, as represented by the curved dotted lines in the two views in the drawings.
For manipulating the link, D, a rod or bar E, may be attached to the link and arranged for folding or unfolding it by pushing it inward for adjusting the apron downward, and pulling on it for raising the apron, with suitable means for fastening the rod to hold the apron in place.
Having described my invention, I claim- In a street sweeping machine the cornbination with the casing covering the brush, of the curved apron A pivoted atf, jointed link D connecting said apron with the'casing, and rod E attached to the link, for adjusting the apron relative to the brush, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
