Description

J. D. JONES.
eed-Drill Teeth.
Patented Sept 26, 1865.
m rzvissz N-PETERS, FHOTO-LITHQGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. 0 Lv UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES D. JONES, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAG-BARS AND TEETH FOR GRAIN-DRILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,135, dated September 26, 1865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known-that I, JAMES D. JONES, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drag Bars and Teeth for Grain-Drills; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference markedthereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the use of an attachment-plate, furnished with a receiving-hopper, in combination with a distributing-tube attached to a tooth ordrill used for drilling in seed, the whole bein gconstructed, arranged, and operating substantially as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of the attachment-plate, hopper, drill or tooth, and distributing-tube. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section of the same.
In the drawings, A represents the attach ment-plate, which, with the hopper B, is made of cast-iron and cast in one piece. On the under side of the plate A are two lugs, 3, to which is-attached the part of the distributing-tube mode of attaching will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2 of the drawings. 1
The operations of my improvement is as follows: The plate A is bolted to the cross-bar of the frame of the grain-drill, so that the hopper B will come under the seed-box, as indicated by the dotted lines 1, 2, and X. The
seed drops from the box X into the hopper B,
from which it drops into the tube 0 and c, and passesalong-it.in-to-the-toothD, and down it into the ground.
Having thus described the nature, construction, and operationof my improvement, what I claim as of my invention is The use of the attachment-plate A,furnished with the receiving-hopper B, and used in combination with the drill D and distributingtubc Sand 6, constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
JAMES D. JONES.
