UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KINNER'N. HOLLISTER, OF DELAVAN, WVISOONSIN.
LAM P-CHIMNEY ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,548, dated June 13, 1893.
Application filed October 31, 1892. Serial 110.450.454. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KINNER N. HOLLISTER, of Delavan, in the county of WValworth and State of Wisconsin, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Attachments for Heating Purposes, of which :he following is a full, clear, and exact descrip- This invention relates to devices used as independent attachments to lamp chimneys, to form a rest or support and guide for heating different bodies or vessels by the flame or heat of the lamp as the same pass up through and out of the chimney, and my invention consists in a device of this character of novel construction adapted to heat curling irons as well as other bodies and vessels, substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forminga part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

of a lamp chimney with my invention in place, and as applied to heating a pair of hair curling irons. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the chimney and invention in place, as applied to heating a vessel containing water or other liquid or substance; and Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of my improved attachment removed from the chimney.
A indicates my improved heating attachment or holder for use on lamp chimneys, the same being of exceedingly cheap and simple yet strong construction, being made of wire, preferably in a single piece, and adapted to sit on top of the lamp chimney and its central portion to enter down within the chimney. It is mainly designed to be used in connection with a lamp chimney crimped on its upper end as at b, to give it a steadier rest or support upon the chimney. As represented in the drawings, it is made from a single piece of wire coiled to form an open or hollow central and vertical screw d, occupying a downward position for entry down within the chimney. From the top of this screw, the wire is projected horizontally to form a stand or-rest adapted to sit on top of the lamp chimney B. Thus, from the top of the screw (1, the wire branches in an approximately horizontal direction to one side of the screw to form an arm or stretcher e, terminating in an outer coil f, from whence it is run diagonally under the arm e across the outside of the screw 01, to form an arm or stretcher g, which at its opposite end to the coil f is twisted to form a coil h, then extended in a straight line or course under the arm g to form an arm or stretcher 2', and at its outermost extension twisted to form a coil is, and extended beneath the arm 2' to form an arm or stretcher Z, and coiled at its finishing end to form a loop or coil m, which hugs or receives within or through it the arms 6 and g, the whole forming a triangular wire stand firmly braced together and stiffened by the coils, and having a centrally-downwardly projecting open and hollow screw (1 down within which a pair of curling irons C, or other body may be inserted to be heated, or on the stand formed at top of said screw a pot D, containing water or other liquid to be heated maybe placed. The several coils on top of the stand not only serve to strengthen the device and make its several arms or stretchers brace one another, but they will assist in preventing the stand from slipping off the top of the lamp chimney, and the screw d besides its function proper as described, will act as a still further security in this respect.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In lamp chimney attachments, stands or holders for heating purposes, an open work stand or holder constructed to sit on top of the chimney, and provided with a centrally and downwardly projecting hollow and open screw adapted to enter down within the chimney, substantially as specified.
2. In lamp chimney attachments, stands or holders for heating purposes, the stand or holder constructed of wire adapted to sit on top of the chimney, and extended centrally in a downward direction to form a hollow and open wire screw adapted to enter down within the chimney, essentially as and for the puranother, and terminating at their center in poses set forth. a downwardly-projecting hollow and open 3. The within described attachment for screw, substantially as specified.
