W. J. KAUPFMAN. CARRIAGE CLIP YoKB.
No. 499,122. Patented June 6,1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM J. KAUFFMAN, OF MIAMISBURG, OHIO.
CARRIAGE-CLIP YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,122, dated J'uneAG, 1893.
Application filed February l1, 1893. Serial No. 461,939. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM J. KAUEEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miamisburg, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriage-Clip Yokes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined clip yoke and brace.
The object of the invention is to cheapen and strengthen the gear and pole connections of carriages.
The various features of my invention are fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings making a partof this speciiication, in which- Figure lis a top plan view of my improvement in position for use. Fig. 2 is a section on line no, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clip yoke. Fig. 4 is a section on line y, y, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a modification of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is another modification of the clip yoke. Fig. 7 is a cross section on line z, c, Fig.6.
A represents a carriage reach.
B represents a brace rod extending from the reach say to the rear axle.
C represents a clip.
D represents a clip yoke. a, a, nuts engaging on threads of the clip for securing the parts in position. The clip yoke is pierced with the vertical hole b as seen in Fig. 4, and provided with the recess c, as shown in Fig. 3. The brace rod B is bent and inserted in the orifice b, and the neck of said brace rod ts and is riveted snugly in the recess c. When two brace rods are required to be used, as for carriage poles, the clip yoke is constructed as shown in Fig. 5.
In Figs. 6 and 7 I have shown another modication illustrating the preferred form of attaching the clip and yoke to the carriage pole.
G represents the carriage pole; H a plate eX- tension of the 4yoke extending rearward and provided with an orifice to engage over the double-tree bolt F. with two recesses c in which are secured the braces B B;
By the construction herein shown the braces are securely attached to the reach or pole without piercing the same, strongly anchoring the brace rods to the same, cheapening as well as strengthening the construction, and allowing the parts to be readily pnt together, which is an important consideration in carriage Work.
I have shown my improvement attached to the reach of a carriage as the most convenient mode of illustration. It may be used in connecting braces to carriage axles, and in various other positions that occasion may require.
Having described my invention, What I claim is The yoke is provided l. In combination with the clip C, the clip yoke D provided with the orifice b and recess c, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with the clip O, of the clip-yoke D, having an orifice b, and a recess c, and the brace-rod B engaged with and secured in the said recess of the clip-yoke, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the clip C, of the clip-yoke D, provided with the orifice b, recess c, and plate extension H, and the bracerod B engaged with and secured in the said orifice and recess of the clip-yoke, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM J. KAUFFMAN.
