SUPPORTING ATTACHMENT FOR-CA`N FLOATING POTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 498,653, dated May 30, 1893.

device to be used in connection with floating pots and the object of the invention is to form` a support adapted for ready engagement and disengagement of cans while being soldered' as set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in Which- Figure 1, is a side elevation of the attachment sectioned along y y Fig. 2. Y In the drawings the letter A indicates a floating pot of suitable structure such for example as that shown in United States Letters Patent No. 482,638, granted to me September 13, 1892. The can G rested against gage H will have solder properly applied when rotated. f
In the drawings I have shown the can G engaged by a holder composed of a base U having a rim V and springs W for suitably holding the can and compelling it to rotate with the holder. Said holder U V is mounted' on a shaft X capable of rotary and longitudinal movement. When the shaft X with the holder is moved longitudinally in a direction away from the pot A the holder will be carried toward the ejector Z so that the lingers Y of the ejector passing through the perforated bottom or base U ofthe holder will eject or release the can.
The ejector Z consists of a disk loosely mounted on shaftX and exposed tothe pressure of spring a coiled about shaft X and resting against brace b held or fixed by one of the screws or fastenings c. The screws or fastenings c extend through the bands d snrrounding the sleeve or bearing c of shaft X and secure said sleeve e in the bands d. The brace b has a slot so that on loosening the proper fastening c the` brace b can be properly set or adjusted after which the fastening c is tightened to, fix the brace b in position.
The shaft X is rotated in the sleeve or bearing e by any suitable means as for eX- ample friction gears f g a driver or pulley 7L rotating the shaft i of gear g.
The longitudinal motion of shaft X is obtained by means of lever k Z fulcrumed at m to the sleeve or bearing e. The lever arm 7c engages a shoulder or collar n on shaft X and to lever arm Z is connected a cord or rod 0 extending to a treadle or actuator (not shown). By drawing down the cord or connection o the lever Z lo is moved to press or move collar n with shaftX in a direction away from potA.
The bands d carrying the sleeve e are jointed or pivoted atl p t-o the supports q which are adjustably secured by screw and slot connections r s to the main supports t in which is also supported vshaft 'L'. The vsupports t are adj ustably secured by screw and slot connections a o to the base w. The adjustable connections fr s u 'u and joints p en- V is moved away from pot A the ejector finc gers Y force the can G free from the holder U V. Thatthe outer end of said can may then be properly supported I provide arest A secured by a screw and slot connection B C to the supports D adj ustab'ly secured by screw and slot connections E F toasuitable base. The adjustable connections B C E F enable the rest A to be set for properly supporting the can when not engaged by holder U V.
' rlhe can G can of course be readily taken from the rest A and guide bar E and a fresh can put in said place will be engaged by the holder U V and springs W as soon as such holder is moved or forced toward the can.
When the shaft X is set to a different position the contact of gears f g is secured by proper adjustment. The gear f is adjustably secured to shaft X by a set screw G. The collar H on shaft t' can also be adjusted by loosening the set screw I and the gear g can be adjusted by 'set screw K. Similarly the pulley h can be made adjustable on shaft t'. The working contact between gears fg can thus be obtained in the different positions to which shaft X and its sleeve e can be set.
In the position of parts in Fig. the holder IOO shaft X might be allowed to slide or move to- Ward potl A by its Weight When released but it is reliable to have a spring L (Fig. 3) coiled about shaft X and braced against acollar or cap M' screwed or secured to bearing e and pressing on a collar N secured to shaft X. By making the collar N adjustable as by a set screw this collar can be set to regulate the tension of the spring. On removing cap M the spring L can be removed.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y l. The combination with a rotary holder of a spring pressed disk having ejecting fingers for disengaging an article from the holder, said holder being movable to and from the ejecting fingers and having a perforated bottom through which said ejecting fingers pass, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a holder and a rotary and longitudinally movable shaft for supporting the holder of a spring pressed disk mounted on said shaft and having ejecting lingers for disengaging an article from the holder, substantially as described.
3; The combination with a holder and a ro-l tary shaft on which the holder is mounted of a sleeve or bearingl for said shaft a lever or arm for giving said shaft longitudinal motion in the bearing, a spring coiled about the shaft, a brace for said spring adjustably fixed to the bearing and an ejector mounted on the shaft and pressed by said spring, substantially as described. f
4. The combination with a holder, a rotary and longitudinally movable shaft for the holder and a spring pressed ejector, of a sleeve or bearing for the shaft, adjustable sleeve sup- Yports q to which said sleeve is jointed and adj ustable main supports t for said sleeve supports, substantially as described.
5. The combination with a holder, a rotary and longitudinally movable shaft for the holder and a spring pressed ejector, of a sleeve or bearing for the shaft, adjustable sleeve supports q to which said sleeve is jointed, adjustable main supports t for said sleeve supports, al rest A for the article in the holder and adjustable supporting arms D to which said rest A is adj ustably secured, substantially as described.
6. The combination with a holder, a shaft for the holder and a sleeve or bearing for the shaft of bands dV provided with fastenings c for engaging the sleeve and adjustable supports to which said bands are jointed, said sleeve being provided with a lever for giving the shaft longitudinal motion, a brace adj ustably fixed by one of ythe fastenings c, a spring coiled about the shaft and made to rest against the brace and an ejector mounted on the shaft and pressed by the spring,substan tially as described.
7 The combination with a holder, ai rotary and longitudinally movable shaft for the holder, an ejector, and a sleeve' or bearing for the shaft of adjustable supports for t-he sleeve, a driving shaft 'i adjustably mounted in the supports, a driving gear g adj ustably mounted on the driving shaft and a gearfadjustably mounted on the holder shaft and adapted for engagement by the driving gear, substantially as described.
8. The combination with a holder, a rotary and longitudinally movable shaft for the holder and an ejector, of a sleeve or bearing for the shaft and provided with a cap, an adjustable collar on the shaft and a spring braced between the collar and cap for giving longitudinal motion to the shaft, substantially as described.
