SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,173, dated May 23, 1893.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE J. KRAUSHAAR, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Album-Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and numerals of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which- I Figure 1 is a side View and Fig. 2 central vertical sectional view of my improved stand or case. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the case with the cover or top removed. Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the devices for securing the feet in position. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view of a modification. Fig. 6 is a detail view of one of the castings.

This invention is an improvement in comblned revolving stands or cases and lamp supports, and it consistsin the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter clearly described and claimed. Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the case proper which may be rectan gular, hexagonal, octagonal, &;c., in plan and as shown in square.

B, B designate parallel, vertical partitions running transversely of the case, and B is a third partition extending transversely of the case and at right angles to partitions B, B as shown which it may intersect. These partitions lie parallel with the adjoining edges of the top and bottom pieces A A of the case as shown, and divide the case into four compartments 1, 2, 3, 4, the largest 1, being surrounded on three sides by the exterior compartments 2, 3, 4, as shown. Access is had to compartment 1 by means of a door 0 hinged to the bottom A at the side of the case opposite compartment 3 and between compartments 2 and 4. The door is provided with curved straps O, which, when the door is lowered, uphold it in a horizontal position as indicated.- At the corners of the case, posts or ornamental pillars a, a, may be arranged as indicated, and separated from the compartments by vertical portions 2) which may be extensions of the partitions where they intersect. The several compartments 2, 3 and 4 open at the sides of the case, and are closed respectively by doors D, E, F, as shown, which are and in order to support the open leaves thereof I provide each door with a U-shaped rod or wire G the legs of which engage grooved strips g attached to the inner faces of the doors, so that when the album is closed the rod may be slid in out of the way, or extended as indicated in the drawings.

Preferablythe several doors are frames with glass panels so that ornamental pictures or photographs may be placed therein as indicated. Instead of using the albums G, I may attach a series of photograph receiving cards H, H, to the door by means of hinge straps H as shown in Fig. 5, which are of successively greater width so that all of the leaves can be folded or banked one upon the other when closed as shown in the figure.

The case is mounted upon a central post I preferably of metal tubing which passes through central opening in bottom A and engages a collar or support in center of top A or may pass through said top and be secured by a collar or coupling a as shown, so that the case cannot be lifted ofi the post, and a collar I beneath bottom A supports the case on the post but permits it to be readily revolved thereon. The post is supported on legs J, J, attached thereto as followsz-The lower end of the post is screw threaded and a nuti is placed thereon. Then two similar but opposite metal disks or castings K, K, are slipped thereon; these castings have angular radial grooves K K in their meeting faces adapted to receive the upper angular ends J of legs J, so that when the castings are bound together they clamp and secure the ends of the legs between them as shown. The castings are bound together by means of a nut 'i and a nut z" screwed on the lower end of post I after the castings are slipped thereon and the legs engaged therewith. The angular form of the grooves and end of legs prevents the latter turning and forms a substantial connection between the parts which can be quickly put together or taken apart. Interlocking tongues or grooves j, may be made in the ends of the legs and sections as shown in the figures to further effect the rigid locking of the parts together. A tube L may be screwed or secured to the upper end of post I, and an adjustable lamp support tube 1 be placed therein to carry alamp, gas jet or electric light, if desired, thus making a complete stand and lamp support combined.

All parts may be finished off in any manner desired, and the legs and post and connections thereof may be hidden by metallic coverings if desired.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent thereon, is-

The within described stand, consisting of a tube I having a screw-threaded lower end, castings K K fixed thereon between nuts 01, '11, legs J J clamped between said castings,a collar I near the upper end of the tube, the revoluble case A resting thereon, constructed substantially as described, and the tube L fitted on tube I above the case, and the tube Z telesc0p ing with tube L, all substantially as set forth.
