SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,790, dated May 2, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DOLLIE O. MoMANIs,a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefulImprovementsin Heating-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has relation to that class of heating stoves provided with a central tube or pipe in which the ascending air is heated previous to its being distributed through pipes to the several rooms of a dwelling or other structure, and the invention consists in the several details of construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a sectional elevation of a heating stove constructed in accordance with myinvention. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section taken on line or so of Fig. 1, showing the base partly broken away and the ash receptacle partly in section.
In the accompanying drawingsA represents the base of the stove supported upon suitable legs a and provided with an ash-receptacle B having a suitable door I) through which the ashes may be removed. At the bottom of the base A is a central opening around which is located a bell-shaped or flaring air receiver 0 extending down from the bottom of the base as shown in Fig. 1. On line with this central opening is an upwardly extending air pipe D of a length to pass up through the base and into the body E of the stove, and to the upper end of this pipe is fitted a pipe section F located within the heating drum G suitably attached to the body of the stove. The drum G is provided with a suitable pipe 0 to carry off the products of combustion and alsowith one or more doors 01 through which the stove is supplied with fuel, and if desired thebaseA may be provided with a suitable door as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, so that access may be had,
thereto when found necessary. The cold air is drawn up through the pipes located centrally within the stove and in its course is heated and its impurities removed and by a system of pipes may be conducted into the various rooms or apartments of a dwelling or other structure. The fire-box or body E of the stove is provided with two segmental pivoted grate-sections I K so that the ashes or dead coals may be conveniently dumped into the base A and by means of the inclined chute H are deposited in the ash-receptacle B. The grate-sections dump inwardly toward the center of the stove as shown in dotted lines and may be supported in a horizontal position by any suitable and well known means. The openings in the grate-section I or the section located in the back portion of the stove, are
smaller than the openings in the front gratesection K in order to give an equal circulation of air through the fuel and around the pipe E, this being essential to give a more complete combustion.
The stove may be provided with the usual dampers or any suitable arrangement of devices may be employed to increase or diminish the draft, and either cast or sheet metal may be used in constructing the parts. It is desirable however that the base and body of the stove aswell as the pipe located therein be of cast metal and the pipe section and drum constructed of sheet metal. This how ever is left entirely with the manufacturer and any changes or modifications in the details of construction I reserve the right to make so long as they come within ordinary mechanical skill and come within the scope of my invention.
Having now fully described. my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
"1. A heating stove having its base provided with a central opening and a bell-shaped or flaring air-receiver surrounding said opening and extending downward from the base, an air pipe communicating with the opening and extending up through the center of the stove, an ash receiver located under the base and an inclined chute to conduct the ashes from said base to the ash-receiver, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a heating stove, the combination with a central air pipe located within the stove, of a front and rear pivoted grate-section, the openings in the rear section being smaller than the openings in the front grate-section Ice flaring air-cond uctor located around the opening in the base to conductthe air to the pipes,
