Be itknown that I, ROBERT GARVIE, of Hartnsefullmprovements in Clean-Outs for Drainage-Pipes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, whereby any one The object of my invention is to provide means for getting ready access toa soil or; drainage pipe, such as is commonly-used in sanitary fittings in a building, without unsoldering the parts, and to this end my inventionconsists of a tubular body part in combination with a cover and cap, and in the details of the several parts making up the device particularly.-hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

The cap is preferably of a size that enables it to fit completely over the end v and has a flange g that is threaded upon the inner side to fit upon the threaded exterior surface of the outer end of the body part of the cleanout.

It is obvious that any other means of securing the cap-t0 the cleanout may be. em-

In the operation of the device the body part of the cleanout having been secured to a pipe the cover is placed in the outer end and drawn to its seat by screwing on the cap, the stem (2 extending through a hole in the cap forming a guide that seats the cap as well as the cover and prevents any stripping of the thread.

When the cap is in place a certain portion of its under surface bearscontinuously all around upon that portion of the cover which lies directly opposite the joint soas to form .a firm seat.

The cover is preferably formed of the same material as the body partof the cleanout so that there is no chance for leakage of noxious gases or odors byany loosening of the joint by any unequal expansion and contraction of'parts, nor is it necessary to employ any packing device other than that comprised-in the partsthemselvcs.

The advantages of my device over those of the prior art are that by reason of the construction when the cap is secured in place with a portion of the cover projecting therethrough an absolute certainty of fit is assured of the cover in its seat thus avoiding the use' of packings and the preventing the escape of gases.
