CARD, SIGN, OR LABEL RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,152, dated April 25, 1893. Application led May 3, 1892. Serial No. 431,652. (No model.)

Be it known that I, WALTER G. DUoKETr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card, Sign, or Label Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in card, sign or label holders.

The object of the invention is to employ such peculiar construction in a device of this class, whereby any number of cards, signs or labels may be arranged thereon, for advertising and the like.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in combination with the card, sign or label holder, suitably formed supporting feet, whereby said holder may be readily and conveniently secured in position on counters, shelves, soda fountains, bottles and at other conspicuous points about, for example, a salesroom.

I may construct the holders in the form of certain geometrical iigures, such as, triangle, circle, star, dre., thereby adding to the attractiveness of the device for the various purposes to which it is adapted, at the same time permitting a large number of cards, signs or labels to be displayed in a comparatively small space, and linally the object of the invention is, while observing neatness in designing, to produce a device, that shall be at once strong, durable, efficient in use and inexpensive of manufacture.

With these objects in view, the invention consists in a card, sign or label holder, comprising a single or double length of wire bent up in the form of certain geometrical igures, or in any other suitable manner, and provided at intervals with single or double coils, which are adapted to receive and retain the cards, signs or labels, bearing the advertisement, in position thereon; furthermore, in combination with the holder having formed at suitable points thereon single or double coils, (whereby the cards are supported in position) and the supporting feet, whereby said holder may be readily secured on counters, shelves, faucets of soda fountains and at similar advann tageous points, for the display of advertising matter; furthermore the invention consists in various novel details of construction whereby the several objects are attained.

In the accompanying drawings formingpart of this specification, wherein like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, Figure l. is a perspective view of the device, shown as applied to the faucets of a soda fountain. Fig. 2. is a similar view of the same, shown detached. Fig. 3. is a detail viewin perspective of a form of holder particularly adapted to be used on bottles. Fig. 4. is a view in perspective of a form of holder particularly adapted to be used on show cases. Fig. 5. is a detail view of a modified form of supporting foot. Fig. 6, is an enlarged view in detail of a rack (as in Fig. l), showing by arrows, the action of the spring arms when combined with semi-circular fingers. Fig. 7. is a similar viewVV showing the action of the combined spring arms and the C-shaped spring fingers, and Fig. 8. is an enlarged detail view of a spring clamping foot (as shown in Fig. 3) in position on a counter. In the drawings A, indicates the holder having the coilsa, formed at approximately equidistant points thereon. Between the turns of wire, forming the coils of the holder, a card, sign or label may be passed, and owing to resiliency of the metal employed, said card, signs or labels will be retained in position thereon, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2.

Supporting feet B, are provided at each end of the holder A, and may be bent in the form of adjustable spring clamping feet, (as shown in Figs. l, 2, 3 and 4) by first twisting the ends of the wires together as at b, then bending them in opposite directions and at right angles to the said holder as at h2 and iinally utilizing about half of each oppositely bent end by turning it up, approximately in the form of semicircular toes b3 which may be connected by the portion b or enlarged or reduced in diameter to clamp varying thicknesses, or as in Fig. 5,a modified form of foot is shown, wherein the ends of the wires b4 are adapted to be inserted in suitable sockets, as for example, along the top of shelves or at other suitable points, and the ends b5 may be IOO bent at right angles to said ends 1J in the form of a circle, for the purpose of obviating sagging, &c.

In the several forms of holders, as herein illustrated, the card, sign or label racks thereof are substantially of similar construction, the points of dilference being in so forming the adjustable spring clamping feet, whereby said holders may be readily attached to any article of furniture or stock, occupying a prominent position in a store, ofce, 85e., also, in manufacturing said holders, when a double wire is employed, it is necessary to make but a single turn to form a coil, whereas, when the single wire is employed, two turns are required.

Furthermore, (referring to Fig. 3.) it will be observed that when using a single wire, the clamping feet B. are given a more iinished appearance, but the capacity of the rack portion is greatly reduced, as will be obvious.

It will be understood that various changes may be made in the detail construction as well as in the proportion of the device without departing from the general idea involved.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. In a card, sign or label holder, a rack portion having a series of card holding coils thereon, the spring legs formed by the bent up extremities of said rack and the engaging feet or terminations of said legs, each of which comprises two offset and approximately circular toes, as specified.

2. In a card, sign or label holder, the rack portion thereof being formed by a series of coils at approximately equidistant points thereon, and provided at the ends with selfadjusting spring clamping feet, each of which comprises two ofset semi-circular toes, sub- 4o stantially as described.

3. In a card, sign or label holder, a rack portion bent up to form a series of coils thereon and spring clamping feet arranged at the extremities of said rack portion, each of said feet being provided with two offset semi-circular toes, substantially as and for the purpose described.r

4. In a card, sign or label holder, the cornbination with the frame A, of the bent up portions forming coils a, thereon and the supporting feet at the extremities of said frame, said feet comprising the right-angular portions 192, and the approximately semi-circular toes b3, substantially as described.

5. In a card, sign or label holder the combination with the frame A, of the bent up portions forming coils a, thereon and the supporting feet at the extremities of said frame, said feet comprising the twisted portions b, the oppositely bentportions b2, the approximately semi-circular clamping toes b3, and the portion b', connecting said toes, substantially as and for the purpose described.
