B. N. POOTE.
MONEY DRAWER FOR CASH REGISTERS. No. 495,934. Patented Apr. 18, 1893.
W I @M M 61 Ed UNITED STATES PATENT OEEicE.
EDWARD N. FOOTE, OF NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGN OR TO THE BOSTON CASH REGISTER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
MONEY-DRAWER FOR CASH-REGISTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,934, dated April 18, 1893. Application filed September 15, 1892. Serial No. 445,950. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD N. FOOTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northampton, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cash-Registering Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cash-drawers esro pecially employed in cash registering machines. As well known cash registering machines are extensively used in liquor saloons, and the coin which is passed over the counter, where beer and ale are rapidly sold by the glass, is often handled wet and thus thrown into the coin-till or tills which latter soon contain considerable liquid in addition to the coin; and the wood from which the cashdrawer is constructed becoming saturated and swelled and warped, prevents the free opening and closing of the drawer, and the operations of the registering mechanism which in many cases are dependent on the movements of the drawer.
The purposes of this invention are to obviate the objectionable conditions established as above, and to this end the invention consistsin the construction of the cash-drawer all substantially as will hereinafter fully appear and be set forth in the claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cash registering machine with a lower portion thereof including the drawer in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a sectional and per- 3 5 spective view of the drawer. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the drawer on line 33, Fig. 2.
The base portion of the cash registering machine has the opening and slide way for the cash-drawer, A, as usual, and the cashdrawer is to be conveniently divided into compartments for bills and for coin. As
shown the drawer or till has several of the coin compartments, a, the bottoms, o, of which are of concave form curving from the lower rear side of the compartment to the upper front side thereof and provided with a multiplicity of perforations, (Z. The bottom is preferably formed of a single sheet or plate of zinc or other non-oxidizable metal which extends across the width of the drawer at the front portion.
The drawer may, with the exception of the pockets for the coin be constructed as common heretofore, the board,f, however, which forms the bottom of the compartments, g, g, for the bills extending only as far forwardly as the rear wall of the coin receptacles.
Of course the liquid which may be entered into the receptacles a, a, with the coin, will pass through the perforated bottom for the avoidance of the objectionable results heretofore experienced under the circumstances indicated.
I claim 1. A cash registering machine provided with a cash-drawer having at its front several coin receptacles the bottoms of which are constituted by a single curved plate of non-oxidizable and perforated meta], substantially as described. 7o
2. A cash registering machine provided with a cash-drawer having atthe rear thereof a series of compartments for bills, the board constituting the bottom thereof terminating at the rear of the front of the drawer, and 5 having at the front the several coin compartments, a, the bottoms of which are constituted by non-oxidizable and perforated metal, substantially as described.
