izer, the air supply tube of which is provided with a side-piece and a swiveled connecting piece to which the flexible tube leading to the pump is applied, said swiveled connecting piece being provided with an interior channel, so that the said channel can be placed in connection by the channels of the side-piece with the air supply tube and the receiving vessel, or only with the receiving vessel, according as a spray or a jet is to be produced.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side-view of my improved atomizer. Fig. 2 is a side-view drawn on a larger scale, of a portion of the air supply tube with its side-piece and swiveled connection piece. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on line 33, Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a plan-view partly in horizontal section, on line 4 4, Fig. 2, of theair supply tube, side-piece, and connecting Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical transverse sections, respectively on lines 5 5 and 6 6, drawn on a still larger scale than the preceding figures, and Fig. 7 is also'a vertical transverse section, on line 6 6, Fig. 3, but showing the swiveled connection piece shifted, so as to shut the connection with one of the channels in the side piece of the air supply tube.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a receiver for medicinal or other liquid which is to be ejected by my improved atomizing d e- Vice. The receiving vessel A is closed by a suitable stopper B, in which the air supply tube C is inserted. Into the lower end of the air tube, located within the receiving vessel A, is screwed a suction tube D which is provided with one or'more openings at its lower end. The upper end ot the air tube is provided with an ordinary discharge tube C2 having a nozzle C with-a central eduction opening C3. The air supply tube C is provided above the stopper B with a laterally extending side-piece E-Which is screwed into the side of the-tube C and which is provided with two longitudinal channels e e', of which the channel e extends from the air supply tube to near the outer end of the side-piece and then extends at right angles to the surface of the rounded olf enlarged Vend E of the side-piece E, as shown clearly in Fig. 3.. The second channel e extends from the' enlarged end of the side-piece E, to within a short distance from the inner end of the side-piece E l and then extends at right angles to a channel e2 that is arrangedin the -air supply tube C, and extends down to the lower end of the" `by springing the enlarged end of the connecting piece F while still in soft condition, over the rounded oft enlarged end of the side piece E, whereby a very reliable and tight connection between the side-piece E and the connecting piece F is obtained. To the outer end of the connecting piece F is attached the llexible tube g, by which the connection with the Valve bulb G is made, said bulb serving in the usual manner as the pump, by which the air is supplied to the receivingvessel A and the air supply tube C for the proper operation of the atomizer.
At the inside of the enlarged end of the connecting piece F 'is arranged a longitudinal channel f which on turning the connecting piece F on its axis, can be placed in connection with the inner end of the longitudinal channel e inthe side piece E or moved sidewise of the same, so as to interrupt this connection, as shown respectively in Figs. 6 and 7. For the purpose of indicating the proper position of the channel f relatively to the channel e, an index mark m is arranged on the edge of the enlarged end of the connecting piece F, as shown in Figs. 4 to 7, which IOO index mark registers with an index'mark 0 on the collar E2 of the side-piece E, when the connection of the channelsfand e is formed, but when the index marks are not in line with each other, then the connection between the channels fand e is interrupted. When it is desired to produce an atomizing action on the liquid in the receiving vessel A, so as to eject it in a spray, the index mark of the swivel connection piece F is set in line with theindex mark of the collar E2 whereby the connection between the channels fand e is produced, so that the air is conducted from the bulb through the air supply pipe to the nozzle of the discharge tube, and simultaneouslyv through the channels e c2 to the interior ot the receiving vessel A, so that air of a certain pressure ills up the upper part of the Vessel A, and exerts thereby a pressure on the liquid so as to force it through the suction pipe toward the nozzle C. The action of the air that is forced under pressure through the nozzle and the liquid that is forced under pressure of the air in the lreceiving vessel through the suction tube, produce an atomizing or spray action on-the liquid, which spray action can be increased or decreases according as the channel f is made to register to a-greater or less extent with the channel e. Whenever it is desired to produce a continuous jet of` liquid'the index mark ot' the swiveled connection piece is turned so that it is not in line with the index mark on the collar E2 of the side-piece E, in which position the communication between the channelsfand e is interrupted and thereby the air compelled to pass from the bulb through the channels e and e2 to the interior of the receiving vessel so that the liquid is forced in a continuous jet or stream through the discharge orifice C3. The mere shifting of the connecting piece produces thus eithera spray of the atomizer, which spray can be regulated within certain limits, lor a continuous jet, as required for the proper application ot' the liquid.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patentv 1. The combination, in an atomizer, of an air supply tube provided with a side-piece, said side-piece being provided with air channels, one channel communicating with the air supply tube, while the other channel is connected with a channel in the air tube terminating in the receiving vessel, and a swiveled connecting piece applied to the outer end of side-piece and provided with a channel which is adapted to establish or interrupt communication with the channel of the side-piece that leads into the air supply tube substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a receiving vessel, an air supply tube inserted in the same, a suction tube applied to the lower end of the air supply tube, a side-piece attached to the Aair supply tube and provided with two channels, onechannel terminating in the air supply tube, while the second channel communicates with a channel located in the air supply tube parallel with theaxis of the same, and.
leading to the receiving vessel, and a swiveled connecting piece applied to the outer end ot' the side-piece and provided with an interior channel that is adapted to register with thev channel leading into the air supply tube, substantially as set forth.
