SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 494,557, dated. April 4, 1893.

Application filed December 19, 1892- Serial No. 455,675- (No model.)

To all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, FOREST DRUKENBROD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Berlin, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, is a side View of the tub, showing parts broken away, i' or the purpose of illustrating the position of the bottom and one of its supports. Fig. 2, is a View of the bottom. Fig. 3, is a transverse section of the tub. Fig. 4, is a view showing a portion of the bottom frame, and showing one set of the legs together with their catches, illustrating the legs in proper position to hold the tub in an elevated position.

The present invention has relation to portable bath tubs, and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In theaccon1panyingdrawings,A represents the sides and ends of the tub, which are preferably formed of sheets of metal which are bent and formed to produce a tub substantially of the form illustrated in Fig. 1. For the purpose of covering the raw edges of the sheets A, the bars B and C are provided; which bars are preferably formed of wood, and as illustrated, are provided with grooves a, which grooves receive and hold the raw edges of the sheets A. The bars B and 0, when formed of wood, are originally straight bars, which are bent to conform to the shape of the top and bottom edges of the sheets A. To the bars 0 are attached in any convenient and well known manner, the cross-bars b, which cross bars are formed substantially as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3 their top or upper edges being concave, and are so formed for the purpose of receiving and assisting in holding in proper position the convexo-concave bottom D. These bars B also serve as supports for the bottom.

To the bottom bars 0, are hinged the legs D and D said legs being located and arranged substantially as illustrated in Fig. 2. The free ends of the hinged legs D and D are provided with the cross bars c, which cross bars are for the purpose of uniting the bottom or lower ends of the legs D and D and holding them in proper adjustment with reference to each set of the hinged legs.

When it is desired to have the bath tub proper rest upon the casters cl, as indicated in Fig. 1, the legs D and D are folded or turned against the bottom bars O; and for the purpose of holding the legs in the position illustrated in said Fig. 1, the spring catches E are provided, and are located upon the bottom or under sides of the bars 0 in such a position that they engage the notches or recesses d, which notches or recesses are substantially of the form shown in Fig. 4, and are located in the cross bars 0.

When it is desired to hold the bath tub proper up and away from the floor, the hinged legs D and D are placed in the position illustrated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, which places the bath tub in such a position, that a vessel can be placed under the bath tub to receive the water contained in the bath tub; or in other words, when the bath tub is elevated as indicated by the dotted lines Fig. 1, the tub can be properly drained of its liquid contents. Thelegs D should be formed somewhat shorter than the legs D, for the purpose of draining the water to the foot end of the tub; said foot end being provided with the drain aperture (1 It will be understood that by providing the casters (1, and securely attaching the same to the bars 0, the tub can be easily moved from place to place.

The object and purpose of providing the bars B and O of wood, is to provide a portable bath tub, that will be light and easily transported from place to place, and at the same time providing a better means for protecting the raw edges of the sheets, which compose the sides and ends of the bath tub proper.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
