FLOUR BIN AND SIFTER.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,640, dated March 21, 1893.. Application filed December 10, 1891. Serial No- 414,540. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. MOOLELLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Valnut, in the county of Bosque and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour Bins and Sifters; and I do declare the following to be afnll, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to a combined bin and sifter, and is an improvement on my flour bin and sifter, United States Patent No. 411,671, datedSeptember 24, 1889,to which reference is hereto made.
My improvements consist in an adjustable attachment to the bin whereby said bin may be easily and adj ustably attached to a wall; a cut-off inserted near the base of the bin to regulate the flow of material into the sifter; a scraper adapted to scrape the upper side of the cut-off so that no material can be drawn out with said cut-off; in having the sifter connected to the base of the bin by single instead of double pins, and in a single door hinged to the front face of the sifter, and so closely hinged that when the same is open no dust can fly out in the face of the operator.
My invention is described as follows.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view of the bin, adjustable attachment and sifter. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of my invention, and Fig.3, is a detail view. Fig. 4 is a detail view of book 5.
Said bin has secured to each side bars, 1, which turn out and run parallel with the rear wall of the bin forming lugs, 2, adapted to run under bars. On each side of the bin is a bar, 3, adapted to cover the ends of the said lugs. In said bars there are perforations, 4, so that the same may be securely fastened to a wall. On the front face of said bars, 3, are pivoted hooks, 5, provided with slots, 6, which work over belts or screws. Said hooks are so constructed that their points work against the rear face of the said bars,

and are adapted to hold up the bin by catching against the lower face of the projections, 2. The object of this construction is to let the bin down when it is to be filled. In order to let the bin down the hooks, 5, are turned out from under the projections, 2, and turned up to a perpendicular postion when they will slip down on their bolts by means of the slots, 6, and thus stand in that position and be out of the way. The bin will then slip down untilthe upper projections rest on the lower pins, 4. When the bin is filled it is again slipped up in position and the hooks replaced. At the base of the incline, A is an opening to receive the cut-off, 7. This cutoff is intended to regulate the flow of any material to be sifted into the sifter, B. The termination of the said incline is turned inwardly to form a scraper, 8, which works against the upper face of said cut-off.
Suitably attached to the front and rear walls of the bin are sleeves, 9, and to the front and rear walls of the sifter are attached 7 corresponding sleeves, 10, Whose openings 7 and the said sifter is secured to the said bin by means of pins, 11, passing through said sleeves.
To the front and lower part of the front wall of the sifter is hinged a one-third cylindrical door, 12, by a close fitting hinge. Said door is made to fit and cover the bottom and ends of the sifter and when shut is so held by a spring clasp, 13.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the binA; bars 1, having the projections 2, attached to the side walls of the bin; bars 3, having the perforations 4; hooks 5, pivoted to the front face of said bars through their slots 6, and having points adapted to work against the rear face of said bars, and to catch under said projections 2, substantially as shown and described.
