Description

ENOS A. BRONSON, OF LINCOLN, NEBRASKA.
COMPOUND FOR RETARDING THE SETTING OF CEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,613, dated March 14, 1893.
Application filed December 15, 1892.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENOS A. BRONSON, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of N ebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Retarding the Setting of Cements, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in compounds for retarding the setting of plaster-of -paris and other analogous cements; and it consists in combining the ingredients in the proportions and in the manner followingz-I take of unslaked lime, say, seventy pounds, and simply dampen it with a small quantity of water, which, with the air, will slake it, the heat generated in the slaking process tending to evaporate the water, leaving the lime in the form ofa dry powder. To this I add, say, thirty pounds of pulverized glue, ten pounds of flax-seed or oil-cake, and
Serial No. 455,219. (No specimens.)
ten pounds of china clay. I then put the mass into an iron kettle and subject it for about three hours to an intense heat, and thoroughly stir it while so heated. By the action of the heat and the agitation of the mass the adhesive and cohesive properties of the ingredients are fully developed and the strength retained, resulting in a product in every way admirably adapted for the purposes intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The composition of matter above described, composed of air-slaked lime, glue, flax-seed or oil-cake, and china clay, combined in the proportions and in the manner set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ENOS A. BRONSON.
