Description
(No Model.) l l f C. SMITH.
BRUSH.
No. 493,414. l Patented Mar. 14,- 1893.
l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN SMITH, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,414, dated March 14, 1893.
Application tiled March 5, 1891- Serial No. 383,923. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is aspecication, referencebeinghad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brushes and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of a body or back, having curved ends and a continuous groove formed therein, extending from the top of the back at one end to across the bott-om and to the top at the other end; and of a brush secured therein, Whereby'a fiat brush is formed With two end sections which are .especially useful in cleaning out corners, all as more fully hereinafter described and shown.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of the block. Fig. 2 is a vertical, central, longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
A is the back, having the beveled ends B. In this back I form a suitable number of grooves C which extend from the top at one end along the bottom and to the top at the other end, as plainly shown in the drawings. In this groove I secure brushes or bristles D, by means of Wires E which pass through the center of the brush or bristles over onto the top of the back and are preferably held in place by means of staples F. This gives a central body portion of brush which I have lettered D and two end brushes G, the brush extending continuously from level with the top at one end across the bottom to a level on the top of the other.
In cleaning corners and various kinds of Work, these brushes are especially desirable and can be added without materially increasing the cost of the brush.
What I claim as my invention is- A brush consisting of a fiat back formed of an elongated block, having parallel grooves therein extending from end to end along the underside, and inclined grooves at the ends terminating at the top of theblock forming extensions of the other grooves, a series of tufts folded and inserted in the grooves throughout their entire length, binding wires in the grooves passing above the bends of the tufts and carried up to and secured on the top of the block and staples spanning the ends of the grooves at the top and adjacent to the ends of the binding wires.
In testimony WhereofI aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN SMITH.
