NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDERS MARTINUS STRUSHOLM, OF WOODBRIDGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ROBERT W. LYLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TILE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 492,996, dated-March '7, 1893.
Application filed September 26, 1892. Serial No. 446,916. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERS MARTINUS STRUSHOLM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodbridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certainnew, useful, and valuable Improvement in Tile-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The herein described invention relates to new and useful improvements in the manner of ornamenting or facing stoves with tiles, and has particular reference to the devices by which the tiles are secured about the stove and firmly held thereto.
The invention therefore has for its object the construction of a suitable device which can be readily attached to the stove or frame rod provided therefor, and are so formed at their projecting ends as to fit within dove tail grooves formed in the tiles, and the invention consists in a spring clip adapted to embrace the frame rods at any desired point, the said clip having its end formed to correspond with the dove tail recess or groove in the tile.
In the accompanying drawings in which my invention is fully illustrated, Figure l is a top or plan view of a plate or rim projecting from the base or top of stove, to which the rods for attaching the clip are secured. Fig. 2, is a vertical section of a stove showing the framing rods, clasp and tile secured in their proper position thereon. Fig. 3, is aperspective view of the framing rods having the clips secured thereon. Fig. at, shows end and side views respectively of two forms of the fastening clip. Fig. 5, is a modification in the form of clip, whereby the same is adapted for use on the corners of a stove, the same being designed to engage the two corner tiles.
Referring to the drawings by letters, A, indicates an iron plate which extends out from the stove, and forms the means for providing a series of upright rods B, about the stove to which, by means of the clip 0, the tiles D, are attached. The plate A, is perforated at E, to permit the hot air to freely escape, and allow circulation ofair. Smaller-perforations F, are also shown which admit the ends of the rods B, and which are provided with the nec- 5o essary shoulders on top to suit the holes.
The rods B, form the f rame work for the tile and the clip 0 is sprung about the same and moved thereon to any desired point. The clip is preferablymade of spring sheet metal, and
in the form shown in Fig. 4, its important features lie in its ready application to the rods by means of the slit a, which can be made at diiferent points therein, and the dove tail head or projecting end I), which causes it when 6c slid within the correspondingly formed groove in the tile to remain firmly therein.
In Fig. 5,1 have shown a modification in the form of clip, in which the bifurcated portions are bent to form each a dove tail head, in order that the clip may engage two tiles placed at an angle- The latter form is designed as a fastening for the corner tiles of ANDERS MARTINUS STRUSHOLM.
