EDMUND MAJOR, OF TERRAVILLE, SOUTH DAKOTA.
GUiDE FOR STAMP-MILLS.
SPECIFICATION f rming part of Letters Patent No. 490,973, dated January 31, 1893.
Application filed June 1,1392. Serial lie. AS51169- (No model.)
To all wit-0772 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDMUND MAJOR, of Terraville, in the county of Lawrence and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Guide forStamp-Mills, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to improvements in guides for stamp mills such as are shown in the Letters Patent of the United States, No. 469,157, granted to me February 16, 1892.
The objectof the present invention is to provide a new and improved guide for stamp mills which is simple and durable in construction, and arranged to permit of quickly and conveniently adjusting the several parts to take up all wear and without removing the blocks.
The invention consists of a keeper adapted to be fastened to a girt or rail formed with downwardly and outwardly in clined sides, and a flange held adjustably on the said keeper.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improvement with parts, in section; Fig. 2 is a front view of the same; Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4. is a transverse section of the flange on the line et-i of Fig. 2.
The improved guide for stamp mills is provided with the usual girt or railA secured by bolts, or other means, to the battery posts B of the stamp mill. On the front of the girt or rail A are formed vertical slots O into which fit the inner ends of the keepers D, secured in place on the girt A by means of bolts E extending through vertical slots in the girt A. Each keeper D is formed in the shape of an open casing, the back D of which is engaged by the bolts E and the heads thereof, extend into the casing as is plainly shown in the drawings. The sides D of the keeper extend downward and are outwardlyinclined, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2. The tops and bottoms D of each keeper conmeet the sides with the back, so that the entire keeper is very strongly constructed.
On the front ends of the sides D are formed sidewise extending flanges D at or near the middle of which is formed a recess D engaged by a flange plate F extending a suitable distance beyond the flanges D as is plainlyshown in Figs. 1 and 3. Each flange plate F is secured in place on the keepers D by means of a bolt G held by suitable lugs or ribs D on the inside of the keepers, see Fig. 1. Theinclined sides D of each keeper engage the outer sides of the guide or bearing blocks H engaging the stem of the stamp in the usual manner. The sides of the guide or bearing blocks are beveled to correspond to the inclination of the sides of the keepers, so that when the latter are adjusted on the girt A by means of the bolts E the guide or bearing locks are free to slide upward and out of contact with the keeper, or are held firmly in place by adjusing the flange bolt G. When the guide or bearing blocks become worn by the vertical movement of the stamp stem, they maybe adjusted to the stem by loosening the flange bolt and placing a thin piece of wood or other material between the keeper and guide block.
The flanges D and the sides F of the flange plates F engage the frontsurface of the guide or hearing blocks, and to prevent said blocks from working upward, each side of the flange plate Fis provided with a rearwardly extending rib F adapted to form its corresponding recess in the front face of the guide block when the bolt G is screwed up to firmly engage the sides of the flange plates with the front face of the guide blocks.
On the lower ends of the inclined sides of the keeper is formed an outwardly extending shoulder (see dotted lines Fig. 2) adapted to engage a correspondingly shaped notch formed in the bearing blocks, the shoulder prevents the blocks from sliding downward and out of engagement with the keeper.
It will be seen by this construction that any one of the stamps can be removed without disturbing the entire guide, and that each individual guide block can be removed or adj usted to the stem by simply loosening or removing its respective flange plate.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
1. A guide for stamp mills, provided with a keeper, adapted to be secured to the girt or rail and a flange plate held removably thereon, and projecting over the front faces of the bearing blocks substantially as shown and described.
2. A guide for stamp mills, provided with a keeper adapted to be fastened to the girt or rail and formed with downwardly and outwardly inclined sides, and a flange plate detachably secured on the said keeper and extending sidewise from the latter to pass over the front faces of the guide orbearing blocks, substantially as shown and described.
3. A guide for stamp mills, provided with a keeper adapted to be fastened to the girt or rail and formed with downwardly and outwardly inclined sides, flanges formed on the said sides and having a recess, and a flange plate fitting into the said recess and adapted to be secured to the said keeper, substantially as shown and described.
4:. A guide for stamp mills, provided with a keeper adapted to be fastened to the girt or rail and formed with downwardly and outwardly inclined sides, flanges formed on the said sides and having a recess, a flange plate fitting into the said recess and adapted to be secured to the said keeper, and a bolt engaging lugs or ribs extending from the sides of the keeper, the said bolt serving to fasten the said flange to the keeper, substantially as shown and described.
5. A guide for stamp mills, provided with a keeper, and a flange plate held reinovably on the said keeper, and provided with ribs adapted to engage corresponding recesses in the front surfaces of the guide blocks, substantially as shown and described.
