Description

(No Model.)'
L. P. GORROW. 'VBHIGLE POLE TIP.
No. 490,805. Patented Jan. 31, 1893.
, 01571496666 Z WWW/gm 3 w UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS P. GORROW, OF DOWNINGTON, MICHIGAN.
VEHICLE-POLE TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 490,805, dated January 31, 1893.
Application filed May 5, 1892. Serial No. 431,913. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEWIS P. GORROW, a citizen of the United States of America, resid ing at Downington, in the county of Sanilac and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holdbacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanyingdrawings.
Myinvention relates to hold-backs for vehicles.
The object of my invention is to simplify and otherwise improve on the several devices at present in use for like purposes.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 represents my improved hold-back in perspective. Fig. 2 is a detail, showing the socket in the end for attaching it to the tongue.
Referring to the drawings by letter of reference, a indicates the main part of the holdback, provided with a socket g to accommodate the end of the Vehicle tongue, which is secured in the socket by means of the pin f,
the front" end being provided with a downwardly turned portion b which forms a hook and has a recess 11 formed upon its upper and inner edge, upon which rests the mousing c, which closes the opening between the hooked end and the main portion a, the mousing being made of a rod bent in a rectangular form, 0 the free ends of which enter openings 6, in the main part a. It will be observed that this construction makes a simple, durable, and efficient instrument for the purpose intended, and one from which the guide of aneck-yoke 3 5 can be readily detached.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The within described vehicle hold-back, 40 consisting of the main or body piece a, having a socket g at one end and a hook b atthe other, the inner edge of the hook being recessed to receive a mousing c, the said mousing being integral and bent to a rectangular 5 form to adapt it to close the opening between the hook and the main body portion and to form its own pivots, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 5o presence of two witnesses.
LEWIS 1 GORROW.
