Description

No Model.)
- 0. G. HALLMAN. WAGON KAISER- N0. 490,787. Patented Jan, 31, 1893'.
UNITED STATES PAT RK OFFICE.
CLARENCE C. HALLMAN, OF PAULS VALLEY, INDIAN TER\RITORY.
VWAQON-RAISER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 490,787, dated January 31, 1893-\ Application filed July 16 1892. Serial No. 440,194. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CLARENCE (IHALLMAN, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Pauls Valley, in the Chickasaw Nation and Indian Territory, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Raisers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. The special object of the invention is to combine pulleys, ropes and levers so as to hoist wagonbeds by handpower with ease and convenience.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of the whole apparatus, Fig. 2 an end-elevation thereof and Fig. 3 a horizontal section.
In the drawings, A represents the frame which supports the pulleys and levers, and which consists of the'two horizontal and parallel base beams a a, the four vertical corner posts a mortised therein and also in two horizontal upper beams a 0. represent three horizontal pulley-beams let into and fastened on the beams a B B are two wagonbed supports of which one end is connected by a rope C with the equal-armed lever D near its middle, each rope passing over two diagonally arranged pulleys E F while each of the ropes C connects the other end of the supports B with the outer ends of the lever D, after passing over the aligned pulleys G G. All the pulleys turn on pivots in the hangers Hwhich are suspended from the beams a. The leverD is fulcrumed at the middle on a power lever K pivoted, near one end, at 70, on a vertical post a and provided with a handle 10'. It will thus be seen that the weight'of the wagon is balanced by an equalizing lever D Whose fulcrum is the point of strain for the actuating lever K. When the lever K has had its handle is pressed far enough down to raise the wagonbed to the elevation desired, it is held in a catch I on the post a.
What I claim as newand desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In a wagon raiser, the combination of the frame A carrying on its upper horizontal beams, hanging pulleys E F and G G, the
wagon-supports B B and middle-pivoted lever D connected by ropes as shown, and the lever K carrying the fulcrum of lever D, all substantially as described and for the purpose setforth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE C. HALLMAN.
Witnesses JAMES RENNIE, J. A. HARRIS.
