SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,962, dated December 27, 1892.
Application filed January 23, 1892. Serial No, 419,079. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS M. BRINTNALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medina, county of Medina, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Circular-Door Safe; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of thesame,suoh as will enable others skilled in the art to which itpertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates more particularly to that class of circular door safes wherein the revolution of the door acts to shoot the bolt. In this particular invention the bolts are located in the door jamb, and the mechanism arranged as hereinafter shown and described, in such a manner that after the door is closed, a partial revolution thereof will operate to shoot the bolts and lock the door in its closed position until it is revolved in the opposite direction to draw the bolts back.
In the drawings: Figure 1-is a horizontal section of the safe door and the adjoining door j amb. Fig. 2-is an elevation with parts in section. Figs. 3 and it-represent details of construction.
In carrying out the invention 1 have shown no door hinge,neither have I shown any time lock mechanism or other dogging mechanism whereby the door may be dogged against revolution in its locked position, since any suitable mechanism for that purpose and any suitable hinge mechanism may be employed, and the invention simply relates to the bolt mechanism.
A represents the door and B the door jamb. Located on the door j amb adjacent to the door is what may be termed the bolt ring 0.
D are the bolts. They may be of any suitable construction but that shown is preferable, and consists of the bolts proper D working in suitable channels in the boltring and held thereto by the links or segments D. These links are pivoted as at (Z to the bolts and are pivoted at d to the bolt ring. Projecting from each link, at the point where it is pivoted to the bolt is the pin (1 E is what may be termed the cam plate or ring. This ring is held to the bolt ring by the screws d which are also the link pivots. These screws cl pass through the slots ethereby allowing the ring E to be revolved and yet holding it snugly to the bolt ring.

The recess at ct-into which the end of the bolt shoots, is beveled or inclined as shown, and the end D of the bolt is correspondingly beveled. On the ring E at any suitable point is the projection cand on the ring A are the pins Now as will be seen when the door is thrown to its closed position the projection cwill be between the pins a. Now a revolution of the door causes the ring E to revolve also. This brings the inclined end of each slot 6 to bear on the pin 61 of each bolt, thus causing the bolt to move in or out as the case may be. By means of the inclined end of the bolt, bearing on the inclined recess in the door ring, the door is bound tightly to its seat. It may be locked or dogged in this position by any suitable mechanism as herein before stated.
It is obvious that many different constructions of bolts and their operating mechanism, might be employed to attain the result at which my invention aims,but I would be understood as including by my invention, any construction of circular door safe wherein the bolts are located in the door frame or jamb, and are operated to lock the door by the revolution of the door.
What I claim is:
1. In a circular door safe the combination with the door and adjacent frame or jamb,of one or more looking bolts located on said frame or jamb, and connected by intermediate mechanism with the door, whereby a revolution of the latter will operate to move the bolts,substantially as described.
2. In a circular door safe the combination with the door, its adjacent frame or jamb, and one or more locking bolts on the frame or jamb, of suitable cam mechanism on the frame, adapted to engage the door when it is closed, whereby a revolution of the latter will operate to move the bolts, substantially as described.
3. In a circular door safe the combination with the door, its adjacent frame or jamb, and

the locking bolts located on the frame or jamb, of a cam ring located on the frame or jamb and engaging the bolts, and suitable connecting mechanism between the door and cam ring whereby a revolution of the door when it is closed will operate to shoot the bolts, substantially as described.
4. In a circular door safe the combination with the door, its adjacent frame or jamb, and the lockingbolts located on the frame or jamb, of a suitable plate or ring on the door against which the ends of the bolts may bear-when the latter are moved to the locked position, one or both of the bearing surfaces being in clined to bind the door to its seat, substantially as described.
