HOLDER AND TURNER FOR STRIPPING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 488,653, dated December 27, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY J. GOSLING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Holder and Turner for Stripping-Machines, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part hereof.
The nature of my invention will appear from the following specification and claim.
In the drawings:Figure 1,isaperspective View of the holder and a file blank tine set therein. Fig. 2, a View of the same partly in elevation and partly in section. Fig. 3, a detached, broken, perspective view of my holder with a file blank in its seat.
A and B are two flanges connected by anarrow neck 0. Flange B is provided with a rigid handle D. E is a saddle sustaining the neck 0 between flanges A and B. F a pin rigidly connected with said saddle and projecting downward into base block G. The seat of the saddle conforms to the rounded neck 0. Block G envelops and is set rigidly upright upon rod M by the set screw M. The file blank to be stripped (I) here shown is triangular in cross section, and when one of its edges is directly beneath the body of the blank a horizontal fiat surface is presented above.
N is a block, provided on its upper face with a depression, V shaped in cross section, adapted to receive one of the edges of the file blank referred to. Forming part of this'block N and back of the said depression is the bolster N, against which latter the end of the blank impinges. The block N with its depression above referred to (whether V shaped or not, according to the shape of the blank to be treated) form a saddle for that end of the blank to hold the fiat surface upward while the stripper K is operating. This block N is also secured to rod M as block G is. The set screws M M enable these blocks to be arranged at varying distances apart to accord with the length of the blank to be treated.
I is the blank and J isthe tang thereof, the latter setting in cone shaped recess J ,as shown in Fig. 2.
K is the strippenwhich, by mechanism well known in the arts and requiring no description here, traverses to and fro on the upper surface of the blank to polish and clean the latter.
H is a set screw in flange A, which, as shown in Fig. 2, fastens the tine of the blank in place.
The operation of stripper K, which is armed beneath with a fiat file, or other rugged polishing agent, is well known in the arts, and requires no description here.
The operation of my invention is as follows:-The blank is set as shown; it is stripped by the traverse of the stripper and, when the latter returns to its starting point, a third of a complete turn is given to handle I.) thus presenting another face of the blank to the stripper to be acted upon by it, and this operation is continued untilevery faceis stripped. When the operation is completed the operative parts will be in the position shown in the drawings. Then set screw H is raised the end of the file taken off block N and the tang from recess J and the blank is removed to be subsequently treated as desired. 1. Flanges A and B with the narrow neck Oconstitute an annularly grooved block.
What I claim as new is:
A holder and turner for file blanks consisting of an annularly grooved and recessed block A B C; saddle E, to sustain the same, handle D to turn the said block, set screw H in the latter to fix one end of the blank to be stripped in the block, block N, to secure the other end of the file and rod M, all combined and operating substantially as described.
