NETED STATES PATENT OFFIQE.
BERTHA MUSSE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ADJ USTAB LE PATTERN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,760, dated December 13, 1892.
Applicationfiled May 9, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BERTHA Mussn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Y0rk,in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Patterns for Drafting Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in patterns, such as are used in drafting sacks, basques, waists, and numerous other garments; and the object of my invention is to produce a simple and convenient pattern, which may be accurately adjusted to fit people of difierent sizes and shapes.
To this end myinvention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
This my invention constitutes an improvement on Patent No. 467,045, issued to me January 12, 1892.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the different views, Figure l is a plan view of the front piece, having the front side piece attached, as shown at A, in position for cutting on the bias. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the back piece. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the sleeve-pattern. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the adjustable hinge. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of one of the adjustable joints and set-screw therefor; and Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view of the jointure between the front piece and front side piece, as shown at A in Fig. 1.
The various parts of the pattern are made up, preferably, of sheet metal, and the patterns may be given any desirable contour, according to the nature of the garment to be cut from them. The front piece is made in two sections, 0 and D. The upper end. of said lower section I) is provided with slotted hinges a a, their turning points or pivots being on a line with the upper edge of said section D. Threaded posts are soldered or otherwise fastened to said upper section 0 near the lower edge thereof. The said hinges a Serial No. 432,391. (No model.)
and a being slotted are adapted to slide longitudinally over said threaded posts, which are provided with small set-screws g and g. It will be seen that by means of said slotted hinges the various parts of the pattern can be adjusted to fit persons of various sizes, and when so adjusted the said screws are screwed down, holding the pattern firmly in position. The front side piece is constructed in two parts substantially the same as the front piece, and is also provided with slotted hinges b and b and set-screwsg" g for adjusting the parts and holding them in position. The front piece and front side piece are connected together, as shown at A, by means of a rivet or in any other suitable manner. The back side piece is constructed in two parts, but without the hinges, as shown in the two former parts. Slots 0 and c are formed in the upper half and are adapted to slide over threaded posts, as in the former instance.
Vhen the pattern is adjusted, the setscrews are screwed down, clamping the two parts tightly together.
Referring now to the sleeve-pattern, it is, as shown, composed of two parts I and J, the lower or part J being provided with slotted hinges d d 01', adapted to slide longi tudinally over threaded posts having setscrews. stance, are used for clampin the parts and holding them in position after said parts have been adjusted.
The main parts of the patternthat is, the front, the frontside piece, the back side piece, and the sleeveare all provided with perforations f, which are arranged so that the cloth from which the garment is cut may be conveniently marked through said perforations to indicate where the garment is to be taken up.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An adjustable pattern consisting of upper and lower sections, the lower section being provided with slotted hinges at the upper end thereof, adapted to slide longitudinally over screw-threaded posts fastened to the upper These screws, as in the former insection near the lower edge thereof, said Signed at New York, in the county of New threaded posts being provided with set- York and State of New York, this 28th day screws for holding the sections in their adof April, A.
