UNITED STATES PATENT EEIcE.
FERRIS S. LIVINGSTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LUBRICATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,676, dated November 22, 1892.
,pplicatiou filed May 24:, 1892. Serial No. 434,156. (No model.)
.To all whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERRIS S. LIVINGSTON, a citizen of the United States, residingin the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lubricators, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Myinvention consists of a lubricator formed of a frame, a supply-pipe connected therewith, a horizontally-distributing pipe communicating with said supply-pipe and mounted so as when rotated to have its ends'projecting from said frame, cocks in said distributing-pipe, and oil-cups with outlets in said frame.
It further consists of the combination of parts herein set forth.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a lubricator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of another form of wiper.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a frame which is adapted to be secured in position above the place where oil or lubricant is to be applied.
B designates asupply-pipe at the top of the frame A, and C designates a distributing-pipe which communicates with said pipe B and is supported so as to be capable of rotation within the frame A.
Depending from and connected with the pipe C is a series of cocks D, and below the same is a corresponding number of cups E, which are secured to the bottom of the frame A and provided with agitators F and wipers G, the latter projecting below the discharge ends of said cups, so as to be engaged by the wiper-cup H, which latter is attached to a connecting-rod or other movable object, whereby Y as the wipers are in the path of the motion of the upper end of the wiper-cup the latter is brought into contact with the former at intervals. Consequently a quantity of oil is taken from said wiper by the cup H and directed by the latter to the place of service. It will be seen that as the pipe C is supplied with oil through the pipe B it is directed to the different cocks D and caused to drop or fallinto the cups E, the amount being properly regulated by said cocks, whereby said cups are uniformly supplied with oil in a reliable and economical manner, avoiding the supply of oil to the cups in large quantities, which occasion waste, while the continued supply to the cup H is sufficient forallpurposes. Should the pipe C or the side cocks require cleansing or repairs, said pipe is rotated, whereby the end caps of the same and said cocks are outside of the frame A, and thus accessible, as illustrated bythe dotted lines, Fig. 1, after which said pipe may be restored to its normal position, the cocks being again over the side cups F. In the drawings thepipes C are shown as connected with the supply-pipe B by a joint, so as to be adapted to horizontally rotate on the lower end of the same; but other means of connecting said supply and distributing pipes to produce the same results may be used.
As the central cock D is in line with the supply-pipe B, it may be readily cleansed from above or below, as desired.
In Fig. 3 the wipers are made of tufts or bunches of fibrous material, while those shown in the other figures are leather, the result, however, being the same in each case. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A lubricator having a frame with an oilsupply pipe connected therewith, distributing-pipes mounted on the lower end of said su pply-pi pe and rotatable horizontally therein and having cocks thereon, and oil-cups on said frame below said distributing-pipes, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A iubricator consisting of a frame, an oilsupply pipe connected therewith, distributing-pipes connected with a joint, rotatably mounted on the lower end of said supply-pipe, cocks on said distributing-pipes, and oil-cups on said frame below said cocks, a portion of said cocks when said distributing-pipes are rotated being removed from over said oil-cups, cups having theirlower ends extending below said parts beingeombined substantially as dethe same, and a. Wiper-cup adapted to be en- Io scribed. gaged by the Wipers, said parts being com- 3. Alubricatoi-consisting of a frame, asupbined substantially as described. 5 ply-pipe, a, distributing-pipe connected With FERRIS S. LIVINGSTON.
said su ppl y-pi peand rotatably mounted within Witnesses; thefralneocksin said discharging-pipe, cups T. H. MUMFORD, on the frame below said cocks, Wipers in said B. FRANK DAY.
