J. w. RANDALL. DISK HOLDER FOR VALVES. No. 485,984. Patented Nov. 8,1892.
J[ Zg/ Kg 1- Z 611/ j] WITNESSES: a INVENTOI? g UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. RANDALL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISK-HOLDER FOR VALVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,984, dated November 8, 1892.
Application filed July 1. 1892. Serial N0.438,688. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. RANDALL, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Valves, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved valve which is simple and durable in construction, arranged toleave the seat-opening totally unobstructed when the valve is unseated, and to prevent the fastening device for the valve from aceidently becoming loose or detached.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which the figure is a vertical central section of the valve with my improvements applied.
A is the valve-body formed with the raised valve-seat B, on which the closing-ring G of the valve E is adapted to be seated. This ring 0 seats on the inwardly-extending annular flange D of the casing D, being provided with a peripheral flange C to rest on said flange D.
In order to hold the ring C in position, a
metallic disk F is placed thereon, said disk being provided on its under side with a circular boss F entering the ring C.
The casing D is internally threaded to engage the externally-threaded centrally-apertured cap G, the lower face of the cap having a recess G concentric with its aperture to receive the head H on the lower end of the valve-stem H and form a swivel connection. The valve-stem is provided, as usual, with threads H engaging the threaded cap A.
The ring 0 is preferably formed of What is commonly known in the trade as black-lead disks.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is v The combination, with a valve easing formed at its lower end with an in wardly-extending annular flange, of a ring seated on said casingdlange, a metal disk on top of the said ring and provided with a projection fitting into the said ring, and acap screwing in the casing on top of the said disk, substantially as set forth.
JOHN WV. RANDALL.
