(No Model.)
J. D. STEPHENS.
LIQUID AGITATOR.
No. 485,753. Patented Nov. 8, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE D. STEPHENS, OF JASPER, ALABAMA.
LIQUID-AGITATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,753, dated November 8, 1892.
Application filed February 11, 1892. Serial No. 421l183| (N0 model-l To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JESSE D. STEPHENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at J asper, in the county of Walker and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Liquid-Agitator, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in liquid-agitators.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive liquid-agitator adapted for churning cream, beating eggs, and the like.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a liquid-agitator constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig.2 isa vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of a heater.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
l designates a frame composed of angular-lydisposed top and bottom bars 2 and 3 and cross-bars 4 and 5, connecting the bars 2 and 3 at points intermediate their ends. At the front of the frame is journaled a driving-segment 6, which is horizontally disposed and is provided at opposite ends of its straight edge with extensions 7, to which are secured vertically-disposed handles 8, by means of which the driving-segment 6 is oscillated and the liquid-agitator operated. On the periphery of the driving-segment is arranged a band 9, which passes around guide-pulleys 10 and which is wound around a shaft 11, and which has its ends passed through perforations 13 of the extensions 7. One end of the band '9 is detachably secured to the segment 6 by a pin 14, around which the band is wound and which is provided with a V-shaped notch 15 to receive and confine the adjacent end of the band. The pulleys 10 are vertically disposed and are mounted between the crossbars 4 and 5, which are provided with bearing-recesses 16 to receive the shaft 11, and the latter is retained in the recesses by the tension of the band. The shaft 11 may carry a dasher 17 or a heater 18, which is designed to operate on eggs, and by oscillating the driving-segment the shaft 11 is rapidly reversely rotated, thereby enabling the liquidagitator to quickly produce the desired result in churning milk or beating eggs. The inner ends 19 and 20 of the angularly-disposed bars 2 and 3 project from the cross-bars and form clamps, which are adjusted by screws 21 and are adapted to secure the frame to an edge of a table or a cleat on a wall or the like. On the upper faces of the ends 20 of the lower bars 3 are secured blocks 22, which diminish the space between the ends 19 and 20 and also serve to stiffen the ends 20.
What I claim is- In a liquid-agitator, the combination of a 7 frame comprising upper and lower angularlydisposed bars spaced and having their inner ends forming clamps to receive and engage the edge of a table or the like, and the upper and lower cross-bars connecting the angularly-disposed bars intermediate of the ends of the latter and provided with bearing-recesses, vertical clamping-screws connecting the inner ends of the angularly-disposed bars, a driving-segment mounted between the angularlydisposed bars at the outer ends thereof and provided with handles, vertical guide-pulleys mounted between the cross-bars, a shaft journaled in the bearing-recesses, and a band Wound around the shaft and retaining the same in the recesses and passing around the guide-pulleys and arranged on the periphery of the driving-segment and having its ends secured to the same, substantially as described. 1
,In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my'signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JESSE D. STEPHENS. Witnesses:
S. R. BURCHFIELD, JOHN IRWIN.
