REFLECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,197, dated September 2'7, 1892.
Application tiled August 31, 1891.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT ZALU D, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have 5 invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to to make and use the same.
a This invention is intended for gas-brackets, and more particularly to double gas-burners.
The object to be accomplishedis to provide a simple, cheap, and convenient arrangement I 5 whichwill greatly increase the quantity of lateral rays of light.
lVith this object in view my invention consists in the peculiar features and combinations of parts more fully described hereinaflzo ter, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an end elevation of my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section on line X X, Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a transverse section.
My device is applicable to any double gas bracket or burner, such as (1. Midway between the burner-tips b is located a pin 0.
The reflector consists of a hollow circular disk having concavo-concave reflecting sides 0 d and a flat periphery c, all made of an integral piece of glass. The inside of the disk is silvered, and thelower part is provided with a transverse recess f for the reception of the burner-bracket a and a vertical recess f for the reception of the pin 0, by which means the reflector is securely held onto the bracket and in the proper equidistant position between the gas-jets, as more clearly shown in Fig. 3.

A recess h is made in the top of the reflec- 4o tor to allow hot air to escape from the interior for the purpose of overcoming danger of breakage from expansion of heated air.
With my device thus constructed and applied to a double burner it will be seen that lateral rays of light from each flame are tangentially reflected away from the reflector, as denoted by lines, and the quantity of light greatly augmented. It will also be seen that in addition to having the rays reflected lat- 5o erally a portion of them are reflected downwardly and upwardly, thereby more perfectly diffusing and increasing the light.
It is evident that my invention could be varied in many ways that might suggest them 5 5 to a skilled mechanic. Therefore I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown, but consider myself entitled to all such variations as come within the spirit and scope of my invention. 6c
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a pair of gas-burners located in close proximity to each other, an upwardly-proj ectin g pin between the burners, and a vertical reflecting-disk provided with a transverse recess to fit over the burner-pipe, and a vertical socket to receive the pin, as set forth.
