FOOT-RAILING FOR COUNTERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,591; dated September 13, 1892.

Beit known that I, GUSTAV ADoLF Serienn- INGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mishawaka, county of St. Joseph, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Foot-Railing for Counters, of which the following is aspecitication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to foot-railings for counters which are to be permanently fastened to the front and bottom of base of counters, the same to be hinged inside of rail, (which forms no part of my invention,) so that the leg and rail can be raised to a perpendicular position, and when in such position the leg and rail rest on a bent hoek of bracket, which is attached to bottom of counters.

My invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement ofparts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view showing my improved railing attached to a counter. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view showing the railing lowered or resting on the Hoor. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing the railing raised. Fig. 4 is a front View showing the railing` lowered and raised.

The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.

A in the drawings represents a counter, to the front side of which, near the Hoor, is a series of arms or brackets B, with a bent hock b in or near the center and top of the arm or bracket B.

b2 is a rubber stop inserted in top of hoek Z1 and is for the purpose of protecting knee cl2.

D is a railing.

d is a fore leg with abent knee cl2, through which the railing D passes and which connects legs together.

c is a hinge, which connects arm B and leg d.

The object of my invention is to have the railing perfectly solid when the feet or legs rest on the floor and to have the rail in the same condition when it is raised by having the bent knee d2 rest on the bent hoek Z9 of bracket B, which also protects the hinge c.

The operation ot' my improved railing and its advantages is that it can be raised or lowered with one movement, and that when it is raised to a perpendicular position the railing will fall by its own weight to bent hoek ot` arm or bracket B.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of a counter With afootrailing which has arms or brackets B with bent hooks Z1', in the top of which are holes into which there are inserted rubber bumpers b2 for the hinged bent knees d2 of legs d', in combination with the railing to rest on said bent hocksof brackets when raised from the floor in a perpendicular position.

2; The combination of the arms B, the liocks b', and the rubber bumpers b2 with the hinged fore legs cl to said brackets and with the rail D to said bent knees d2, all for the purpose as herein set forth.
