Description

(No Model.) I
R. BOETTLER. SPRING DRAFT ATTACHMENT.
No. 482,504. Patented Sept. 13, 1892.

ROBERT BOETTLER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
SPRING DRAFT ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,504, dated September 13, 1892.
Application filed May 31,1892. Serial No. 435.089. (N0 model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT BOETTLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Tug Attachments for Thills, of which 'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a spring attachment for harness-tugs to a wagon or vehicle thills, having for its objects to dispense with the whililetree and to relieve the jar upon the horse.
The invention consists in the construction and combination substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
- In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a pair of thills having my inven tion attached. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detached perspective view of my new spring tug attachment.
A is the cross-bar of a pair of thills, to which is usually attached a whiftletree, which I have discarded and provided instead the spring tug attachments, as shown.
B represents a folded spring, one fold of which is secured to the rear side of the crossbar A next to the thills by means of bolts or other suitable means.
0 is a yoke which embraces the cross-bar A and is pivotally attached to the free or moving end of said springs, the ends of the yoke being provided with eyes and the end of the spring with a tubular fold or long eye, through which a bolt is put for pivotally uniting them. The forward or how end of the yoke is provided with a hook D, having its pointstanding upright, upon which the loop or eye of a harness-tug is readily and easily placed or removed.
From the description and drawings it will be readily seen that this makes an easy and comfortable tug attachment, economical and durable, and which relieves the horse of jerking and jarring in starting or hauling.
Having described my invention, I c1aim- A spring tug attachment for thills, consisting of U-shaped springs B B, one arm of each spring secured to rear side of cross-barA of the thills, and U-shaped yokes O C, embracing said cross-arm and pivotally attached to the free ends of the springs B B and provided with hooks D D, whose points stand upright, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
ROBERT BOETTLER.
