SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,953, dated August 16, 1892.

Application filed March 1, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN MAUERHOFER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Frames, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to an improved picture-frame in which one member of the frame is covered with an embroidered fabric of any desired color, by which a rich and ornamental efiect is imparted to the pictureframe and by which the same may be readily matched with the general colors of the furniture and hangings of an apartment; and the invention consists of a picture-frame formed of an exterior molding, an interior molding,

and an intermediate panel covered by an embroidered fabric, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a corner portion of my improved picture-frame. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line 2 2, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section showing a modified construction of the same.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a picture-frame, which is composed of an exterior molding a, an interior molding b, and an intermediate panel d, which is covered by a face layer 6 of embroidered fabric. with the same. The frame may also be madeof a piece which is provided with an exterior and interior molding and with a central re- .cess or'depression, into which the intermediate panel d,that is covered by the embroidered fabric e, is placed and attached in any suitable manner, the connection between the different members forming the picture-frame being made by nails, glue, or in any other suitable manner. The ornamentation of the embroidered fabric should conform to some extent to the design on the exterior and interior moldings, so that aipleasing impression is given to the eye. A large variety of different combinations between the moldings and the design and colors of the embroidered fabric on the intermediate panel may be produced and a very striking and ornamental picture-frame obtained and the panel easily removed and replaced by another, so that the color of the embroidered fabric can be made to correspond to the general colors of the furniture and hangings of an apartment.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A picture-frame composed of an exterior molding having an overlapping flange, an interior molding, and a panel clamped between said moldings and provided with an overlap ping flange, said panel being covered with a suitable fabric.

2. A picture-frame composed of an exterior 8o molding having an overlapping flange, an interior molding, and a panel clamped between said moldings and provided with an overlapping flange, said panel being covered with a suitable fabric overlapping the edges of the panel and being retained by the moldings.
