KEY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,712, dated August 16, 1892.
Application filed April 28, 1891- Serial No. 390,867. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NATHAN W. ORANDALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Key-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- 1o pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in implements or devices for holding keys or other similar articles; and it consists in certain novel features of construction, which are fully hereinafter specified and claimed.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheap and efficient device for holding keys which shall permit of the removal of any particular key without disturbing the rest of the bunch.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan View of a device well calculated to carry out the spirit 0 View of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The operation of the device is as follows: Desiring to place a key upon or remove one from the holder, the strap or loop is swung to one side, as shown in Fig.2, when by springing the arms laterally in opposite directions an opening is formed of sufficient size to admit of placing or removing the keys, as desired. To close the holder, the strap or loop is swung over the end of the overlapping arm at until the lug C registers with the depression 1) in the strap or loop B, where it is securely held from accidental displacement by reason of the outward spring of the arm a, which is so constructed as to rest normally at a slight distance from the end of the arm a, the length of the strap or loop being calculated so that in passing over the swell or lug C the arm a is drawn firmly against the arm a.
It is evident that in construction the holder may assume a large variety of shapes and forms without departing from the spirit of the invention described in the foregoing specification. Therefore I would not bind myself to any particular style, but desire the liberty to construct them in any shape that may prove desirable. It is obvious, also, that the holder may be formed from any material; but Iprefer spring sheet metal, since it presents a flat surface upon which the name and address of the owner may be stamped when desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a key-holder consisting of a spring-metal body having an arm a formed upon its end with a lug or stud, an arm at, having its free end projecting over the end of the arm a and nor- 8o mally removed therefrom, said arm a being formed with a depression 0, adapted to receive said lug or stud, and with a lug or stud C at the outer side of said arm, and an approximately-U-shaped locking-loop B, pivoted at its ends to the arm aand provided in its connecting portion with a depression 1), adapted to receive the lug or stud C, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
