Be it known that I, WILLIAM VOGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adj ustable Dress-Forms, of which the following is a specification.

One part of my invention has reference to the structure which constitutes the skirt porxo tion of the dress-form; and it consists in a structure of Wire whereby the same is rendered light and firm.

Another part of my invention consists of certain improvements in the mechanism for adjusting the dress-form to various sizes, so as to render it simpler in operation and less expensive in construction.

A is the post or standard which fits into the tubular rod B, which is supported upon feet in the usual way.

The dress-form consists of a waist portion,

which corresponds to the general shape of a ladys dress-Waist, and is composed of papiermache or any suitable material and is divided into four sections C C. These sections are riveted to the waistband, which is made of 3o cast metal and divided into four corresponding sections D D. The skirt portion is composed of wire strips E E, bent into suitable shape, which at their upper ends are rigidly fastened to the sections D D of the waistband and are connected to each other at several points in their length, so as to form a light, elastic, and firm structure.

Fis a collar free to revolve on the standard and supported thereon by a pin or other suit- 4o able means. Cast integral with this collar F, or rigidly secured to it in any suitable way, are four horizontal sleeves G G. Fitted to the sleeves G G are slide-bars J J, which at their outer ends are bent downward at a right angle and riveted to the waistband-sections D D. Upon these slide-bars J J the dressform is mainly supported, and in the operation of expanding and contracting it the dressform remains at the same height. Pivoted to 5o ears cast upon the waistband-sections D D are a series of links or braces L L, which at their inner ends are pivotally connected to a worm M, which engages with a stud or screw N, which is fixed in the standard. Below the Worm M is another worm O, which is cut in the reverse direction to the former, which engages with the stud or screw h, Xed'in the standard, and to which is hinged a series ot links or braces d d, downwardly inclined and pivotally connected to the skirt portion at 6o their outer ends. At the neck of the dressform is a series of links or braces g g, pivotally connected to the four sections O C and to a collar p upon the standard, provided with a set-screw. 4

The height of the dress-form may be adjusted by raising the standard and then iixing the collar P by means of its set-screw, so that the dress-form will be supported by the collar P, resting upon the top of the tubular 7o rod B.

To expand the skirt portion of the dressform, place one hand upon the handle R at the top of the standard and revolve the dressform with the other from right to left. This causes the Worm M to ascend and the worm O to descend and through their connectingbraces to expand the dress-form. To contract the dress-form, revolve it in the reverse direction. The size of the neck is adjusted 8o by the collar P and its connecting links or braces g g. y

The construction of the skirt portion is an important feature of my invention. It will be observed that the Wires which compose it are stayed at iive different points-namely, at the top, bottom, and three intermediate points. This construction renders the skirt firm throughout its entire length. The wires are fastened to each other by tin or sheet- 9o metal clips e e' c2, which are bent around them and then clinched. Extending between the intermediate clips e c2are other wires or strips f f, to which the braces d d are pivoted. I prefer this construction, although the braces d d may be pivoted directly to the wires E E.
