SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,734, dated July 12, 1892.

In my present improvements the watchcase is made in substantiallyone piecethat is to say, the back and center are in one and the edge of the metal at the open side of the case is turned inwardly and screw-threaded and the shank or pendant is permanently fastened to one side of the case, as usual, and the ring that holds the watch-works and face is screwed into the case and the edge of such ring comes into contact with the inner surface of the case-back. In this manner the case is strengthened and stiffened and dust is effectually excluded and the glass is applied at the outer end of the ring that carries the works. 1
In the drawing 1 have represented my improvement by a vertical sect-ion of the case on an enlarged scale. The case is made with the shank or pendant E at one side of the main case A, which case is composed of a back, center, and inturned flange a at the open side of the case, and this inturned flange is of sufficient thickness for the reception of a screw-thread. The metal ring B is adapted to receive the watch-works and the face, and these works are to be of any desired character, and the ring 13 should be provided with the offsets of shoulders, as shownin the drawing, for the plates of the watch-movement, and the portion 0 of the ring is adapted to rest against the inner surface of the watch-case A at the back thereof, and around the ring B a screwthread is provided to screw into the screw-thread upon the inturned flange a. The watch-glass G is received into the bezel F, which bezel is advantageously made to snap or spring overthe outer edge of the ring C, so that the edge of the bezel passes in between the inner edge of the case at the outer side thereof and said ring 0, and the edge of this bezel may be knurled, so that the bezel, the glass, the ring, and the works may be rotated in screwing the ring 0 into the case or in unscrewing the same, and the parts con structed in this manner are very strong and dust-proof. The winding stem D passes through the shank or pendant, as usual, and itis adapted to connect at its inner end with the winding square or arbor D of the watchworks, and the small screw a, passing through the shank into a neck turned in the windingstem D is employed to prevent the windingstem falling out.
, I claim as my invention- The watch-case A, having the back rim and inturned flange a in one piece of metal and the surface of the inturned flange screwthreaded, in combination with the ring B, having a screw-threaded exterior to screw into the flange a, the inner edge of the ring B being adapted to set against the innersurface of the case at the back, and a bezel for the glass having a flange that passes in between the case and outer edge of the screw ring,substantially as set forth.
