T0 all wh0m it may concrn:
Be itknown th et we, WILLIAM DAVID KURZ end HANS AMUNDSON, eitizens of the United Stetes, residing etLe Crosse, in the eoun1sy of Le Orosse end Stete of Visconsin, heve invented certein new end useful Improvements in Electric-Lemp Sockets; end we do hereby declere the following so be e full, cleer, end exect description of the invention, such es will eneble others skilled in the ert to whieh it epperteins to meke e11d use the seme.
This invention reletes t0 eleetrie lighting, end especielly t0 the incendeseent lem p end meens end eppliences f01 supporting the seid lemp end including it in the ci1cuit.
The purpose 0f the invention is so provide e system 0f wiring end e lemp-holder whieh is especielly edepted for outside decoretive illuminetion end whieh will ed1nit 0f the use of bare wire end prevent rein from lodging in alle holder or socket end short-cireuiting the len1p.
A further purpose 0f tl1e invention is to fecilitete the wiring of the strueture to be illumineted e-nd elso insure e firm end positive electricel eonneetion between the lemp terminels end the terminels of the holder under vibretionS of lerge emplitude 0f the lemp due so jers of the strueture, should the seme be e feetory, boet, 01 moving vehiele, thereby pre-venting e11 interruption of ehe eircuit end e b1eekege of tl1e eerbon fileh1ent of the lemp.
Tl1e improvement consists of ehe novel feetures end the peeulier construetion end pombinetion 0f the perts, whieh will be hereinefter more fully deseribed end cleimed, end Whieh ere shown in the ennexed d1ewings, in whieh Figure 1 is e pl en view of esupport, Showing the epplieetion of the invention thereto, the wire 011 tl1e reverse side 0f alle seid support being showu in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is e perspeetive view of eholder deteehed. Fig. 3 is e erossseetion showinge le1np in position.
The lemp-holder A is composed 0f e single coil 0f wire of proper size to for1n e Socket to reeeive the threeded plug b 01": the lemp B. One end of the coil 01 Socket is projected to f01111 the arm a, whieh is in the plene of the bese-eoil end whiehis slightly eurved end terminetes in the eye a, whiel1 reeeives e screw o1 other festening C. The other end 011 tl1e support 01 strueure E t0 present the outline 01": Ehe desired design, end ere elec trieelly conneeted on the reverse side 0f the seid support by the wire F, whieh is coiled ebout tl1e projeeting ends 0f the seid couteets D. The Sockets 01' holders A ere pleeed on the support 01' strueture E so thet the coutects D occupy e eentrel position reletive to eeeh soeket end ere seeured in pleee by steple 01 festening which is driven over arm a elose to the seid soeket end by serew o1 festening C, whieh pesses through tl1e eye a. Two festenings g end C ere provided for eeel1 socket. The wire G is in eleetrieel conneetion with the festenings O, preferebly by teking e turn eround eeeh. The wires G end F ere ineluded in the eircuit in the ordinery menner. WVhen the len1p is properly inserted in the soeket, the eleetric tenminels thereof ere in eleetricel eonneetion With the soclket end the contect D. l3y reeson of the socket being of e coil of wireit will gresp the threz'zded plug end of the lemp firmly, Will yield to Vibretions, end being open will prevent the lodgment of weter end the short-cireuiting 0f the lemp.
By heving ehe positive wire 0n one side 0f the support end the negative 01 neutral wire 011 the opposite side of Lhe seid support 110 short-eircuiting een possibly 000111: by reeson of the two wires coming in eonteet, therebv deer aesing the ehenees of fire end obvietin2; the ehief souree of trouble experieneed in temporery outdoor deeoretive lighting.
Heving thus deseribed our invention, whel; we eleim, end desire t0 secure by Letters Petent, isy l. The combine-tion, With e support end e series 01": eleetric conteets extending thro11gh tl1e seid support end in electrieel conneetion 011 the reverse side thereofof eseries of soekets, eeeh formed of e single eoil of wire end IOO p1aced concentrie with o'ne of the said 0011- tacts, the said sockets beingin electrical counection, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with a support and a series 0f e1eetric contacts extending throngh the said support an(1 in electrical connection on the reverse side thereof, 0f a series 0f sockets, each soekeu formed of a Single 0'0i1 of wire and p1aeed concentric with a contact and having an arm which terminates in an eye and fastenings for seeuring th-e sa-id arm to 3 the said support, one Set of the fastenings being in electrical connection, substantially as Set forth.
3. The hereinbefore-specified lamp-socket,
composed 0f a 0011 of wire5 havirxg 01'16 end of the wire extended t0 form the arm a, by means of which the said sooket is secured to the support and having the other end of the said wire extended to form the projection a for the finger to obtain apurchase upon when removing 01' attaching the 1amp, substantially as Set forth.
In testimony whereof we af'fix 0111 signatures in presenoe of two witnesses.
WILLIAM DAVID KURZ. HANS AMUNDSON.
