CUFF-HOLDER.

To and whom it may concern:

Be'itknown that I, IVILLIAM C. SHAW, a citize11 of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to that type of cuffholders that are more especially adapted for connection to either the wristband of the shirt or to the inside of the coat-sleeve, the object of the present improvement being to form in one integral piece a cuff-holder in which are combined the features of great durability, cheapness, simplicity, and ease of attachment and detachment. l attain such object by the construction of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved cuff-holder as formed of a sheet or plate metal; Fig. 2, a side elevation in position, the cuff and wristband being shown in section; Fig. 3, a detail view showing the attachment of the cuff-holder to the inside of the coat-sleeve.

Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the different views.

As represented in the drawings, my improved cuff-holder consists of a single piece of metal bent upon itself to form the upper, lower, and intermediate clasp members 1, 2, and 3 of the holder, the lower and intermediate members 2 and 3 being connected together at their forward ends, while the upper and intermediate members 1 and 3 are connected together at their rear ends to form the respective receiving-cavities for the wristband or cuff of the shirt or other article of wear and for the cuff proper.

In the present invention the means for the attachment and holding of the cuff proper is furnished by means of a downwardly-projecting bend or gap 4 midway of the intermediate member 3 and extending the transverse width of the same and a transverse spur or tooth 5 on the forward end of the upper mem- V ber 1 and arranged immediately above the gap or bend t and adapted to projectinto the same, as shown. This spur or toothis adapted to engage in the button hole or holes of the cuff, as usual, and is preferably formed by bending the forward end of the upper member 1 back upon itself, with a short portion of the extreme end bent at right angles to constitute the spur or tooth 5 and leave a forwardly-proj ecting th umb'piece 6,by which the upper member is drawn upward in introducing or removing the cuff 7 from the holder. In the construction shown the under ridge of the bend l of the intermediate member 3, in connection wit-h the corresponding bend or offset 8 in the lower member 2, ordinarily constitutes means sufficient for attaching the holder to the wristband 9 of the shirt, 850. However, for a better attachment the meeting faces of either or both members 2 and 3 may be provided with serrations or teeth 10 to insure a more perfect attachment. In my preferred construction I extend the lower member 2 backward, and provide the same at its rear end with a head 11 or other usual means of attachment, so that it can be sewed on the inside of the coat-sleeve when such mode of attachment of the holder is desired.

While in the drawings I illustrate my improved cuff-holder as constructed of a fiat plate or bar of metal, it is within the province of my invention to make the same in a substantially identical form from wire.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A cuff-holder comprising the clasp members 1, 2, and 3, integrally formed and provided with the gap or recess 4:, tooth or spur 5,bend or offset 8, and head or other attaching means formed on the rearwardly-projecting portions of the lower member, substantially as set forth.
