HOTEL LEDGER.
No. 478,856. Patented Apr. 26, 1892.
ATTORNEY.
UNTTED STaTns ATENT Trice,
LEE SEl-ION, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
HOTEL LEDGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,856, dated April 26, 1892. Application filed February 7, 1891. Serial No. 380,567. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEE SEHON, a citizen of theUnited States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hotel Transfer-Ledgers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
My invention relates to anew and improved form and arrangement of hotel-lodgers; and the object of theinvention is to provide a book fon the purpose stated which shall be so arranged as to serve the double purpose of a day-book and journal and of a ledgera book wherein an accurate account of all the transactions with each guest is kept in such a manner that the condition of any guests account with the house, the amount paid, the debits and credits, together with their amount, with the dates thereof, an itemized list of all services, together with the rates of charge therefor,'and the balance due may be so presented therein as to be given at a glance at any time, all to be arranged in a neat, attractive, and compact form-and confined to a minimum of space-a hotel-ledger possessing many and important attractions and advantages, as will be fully hereinafter set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, wherein is illustrated the manner of carrying my invention into effect, said drawing being a perspective View of a book having its pages ruled and printed according to my improved plan, a portion of said book being broken away for the lack of space.
In the description of this book, though reference shall be had to but one page thereof, since all the pages are alike, it will not be construed to bear any reference to the plurality of the pages or sheets forming the volume of the book.
On the left side of the page is located the column A, headed Names, wherein are recorded the names of the guests or persons whose accounts are presented to the right thereof in the space bounded above and be low by the double-ruled lines B, located and extending transversely across the page. The next column O, extending parallel with column A and longitudinally of the page, is headed Room, and is the column wherein is given the number of the room occupied by the guest. In the next columns D, E, and F, coming in immediate succession across the page and parallel with columns A and C, are those headed Arrival, Dept, and Rate, respectively, wherein are given the dates of arrival and departure, together with the rate by the day or Week. Next in order is the column G, headed Extras, wherein are enumerated the items of Baggage, Fires, Bar and wine, Sundries, Cash, and Bill rend. in a vertical column, while the items of WVashing and Extra lodging are placed to one side, thereby enabling the clerk to keep with but little work an accurate account of all extras to which the guest is debited. It may be well here to note that though the extras here enumerated are those most frequently occurring on a book of this class others may be added according as the occasion may require. The next column H in order is headed Amount due, wherein said amounts are recorded, while at the foot of each division thereof is a space I ruled olf, wherein may be written the sum total of said amounts. In the next column J, headed Payments, are spaces K and L, into which the column J is subdivided, said spaces being for each payment, together with its date, wherein the guest is to be credited with all payments, while next thereto is located the column M, headed Bal. due, wherein is presented the balance of the guests indebtedness. By this arrangement it will be readily seen that from the dates of arrival and departure, together with the rates as presented in the columns D, E, and F, will be de rived an amount which is transferred to column H, which is headed Amount due. In
this column is also placed the amounts of the extras as presented in column G, the sum of which items is recorded in the space I. This amount minus the sum of payments, as recorded in column J, will give the balance due, which should be written in its respective column.
IOO
From this description it will be observed that among the numerous advantages accruing from the use of a ledger of this description may be mentioned as most prominent the advantages of presenting with but little work a neat and attractive combined day-book or ournal and ledger which. shall give at a glance an accurate itemized and balanced account of all debits and credits, all confined to a minimum of space and perfectly legible at a glance to any one accustomed to the use of books.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. A hotel-ledger provided with four columns, wherein may be kept an itemized statement of each guests bill, the amount paid, the date of payment, and the balance due, each column being provided with an appropriate heading, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A hotel-ledgerhaving that portion of the Rate column opposite each gnests name divided into two spaces, one for the day-rate and the other for the rate per week, each space being appropriately marked, substantially as described.
3. A hotel-ledger provided with four columns, one of which columns is provided with suitably-designated spaces to receive an itemized statement of the guests bill, the remainingcolumns being adapted to contain the amount paid, the date of payment, and the balance due, each column being provided With an appropriate heading, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE SEHON.
