SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,396, dated April 19, 1892.

To whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LORENZO D. JONES, of Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha an d State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in'the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference be- [0 ing had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in bridles; and it consists in certain novel features of construction, which will be fully described hereinafter, and more particularly referred to in the claims.

The object of my invention is to do away with the rosettes now commonly used on bridles, and thereby greatly cheapen their construction.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a bridle provided with my improvement. Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged detached Views of the brow-band.

A represents the head-stall of the bridle, forked at B on each side, as shown, to form the side straps O, which support the bit and the rearWardly-turned throat-straps D, all of which are of the ordinary construction.

E represents the brow-band, having loops F on each end, through which the said straps O D pass near the fork B. Secured t0 the front of the brow-band is the sheet-metal or 5 wire strip G, having eyes H formed on its ends directly opposite the fork B. Secured in these eyes are the links I, which surround the center of the loops F, separating the straps C D and contracting the loops in such 0 a manner as to bind them and the said straps securely together. By this means an ornamental finish is given to the bridle sides, while at the same time the expensive rosettes are done away with. The links I, being secured to the ends of the strip G, are always 5 held in place and cannot work out of position. The band G, which may be formed of any suitable stiffening material, greatly strengthens the brow-band, retaining for the same the desired shape, and the leather of the said band being prevented from bending is vmuch less likely to crack and break. Bridles thus formed are very neat in appearance, while at the same time their cost is very much reduced, owing to the simplicity of construction.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The combination, with a headstall and v a brow-band provided with looped ends, of a supplemental band secured to the front of the brow-band and links secured to the said supplemental band which surround the loops of the brow-band, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a bridle, the combination, with the headstall and the brow-band provided with loops on its ends, of a strip of stiff material secured to the front side of the said band, eyes formed on the ends of the said strip, and links which are confined in the said eyes and which surround the said loops, substantially as shown and described.
