HARNESS-HOOK.

My invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed. 4

In the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved harness-hook, and Fig. 2 shows a somewhat modified construction.

Referring to the drawings, B indicates a check-hook used upon double harness, said hook being of the usual or any suitable pattern.

In order to hold the rein upon thehook and prevent it being accidentally thrown ofi, I provide a protecting-loop. O, which loop is formed integral with the body of the hook and straddles or surrounds the hook-arm intermediateits ends. This loop is made integral with the base-plate of the hook and passes over the hook-arm, and this loop may be connected with the guard-post by means of an integral brace-arin O, as clearly shown. The loop extends a sufficient distance above the hook-arm to allow the passage of the rein between the said loop and arm.

In operation the rein is passed through the loop at one side of the same and then slipped over the free endof the hook-arm. The rein is now allowed to move forward and engage the forward end of the hook, the said rein resting forward of the loop, and any attempt to throw the rein off the same will be frustrated by the loop preventing it moving too farrearward, and in order to remove the rein it is necessary to. reverse the operation. of placing it upon the hook.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. An improved harness-hook comprising a base portion, the hook and guard-post, the loop integral with the base portion and straddling the hook intermediate its ends, and the brace-arm connecting the guard-post and loop above the hook, substantially as shown and described.

2. An improved check-hook comprising the hook proper, the protecting-loop integral with the base thereof, and the brace-arm integral with the loop, substantially as shown and described.

3. As an improved article of manufacture, the herein-described harness-hook, comprising a base portion, a hook connected with said base portion, a guard-post arranged at the rear end of said base, and a loop attached to the base and straddling the hook intermediate its ends, substantially as shown and described.
