WINDOW-FRAME.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,757, dated April 12, 1892.

.To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMANN GOESE, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and

in the State of Wisconsin, have invented cer-i tain new and useful Improvements in Win dow-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention has for its object to provide a window-frame from which the sash may be removed without the removal of the finishstrips or parting-rail; and it therefore consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings and'subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of a portion of a win dow-frame embodying my invention; Fig. 2,

Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents one side of an ordinary window-frame, provided with the usual removable section B; butinsuch awindow-frame this sectionthereof is usually independent of the parting-rail O and generally of less length than a sash D, it

- being only designed as aclosure for an open- To overcome the disadvantages just enumerated, I employ the following construction: The removable section B above'described is given a length equal to or greater than that of the'sash D, and a like length of the parting-rail C is made fast to this removable section or integral therewith, as best shown, in Figs. 7 and 9.. A casting E, having abeveled top face I) and a notched tongue 0 centrally disposed on this face, is fitted to the upper end of the frame-section B,and another casting F, having abeveled bottom edge (1 and a centrally-disposed tongue 6, is fitted to the lower'end of said frame-section, the tongue on each casting being at an angle corresponding to that of'the adjacent beveled face or edge.

Fitted to the pulley-piece G of the window-frame are castings II I, respectively opposed to the ones E F on the removable h, secured at one end to said casting and having its other end impinged against the latch. A prongiof the latch extends through a suitable opening in the casting H to engage with the notch j in the tongue 0 on the casting E, that is fitted on the'upper end of the frame-section B, and said latch is preferably provided with another prong 70, also designed to engage with the notch in said tongue.

In the normal position of the parts the frame-section B is heldflush'with the pulleypiece G by the latch-prong 1', as illustrated in Fig. 1; but if said frame-section is pushed back the latch-prong It comes into play to limit its movement, as shown in Fig. 2; but if this frame-section is to be taken out the latch is raised far enough to have the latter prong thereof clear the tongue 0 on the casting E.
