SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,939, dated March 29, 1892. Application filed December 30, 1891. Serial No. 416,530. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BOYLE, of Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Sliding Blinds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in blind attachments; and the object is to produce a simple, cheap, and convenient device which may be applied to any form of sliding blind, which will keep the blind from rattling, and which will enable the blind to be held at any desired height.

To this end my invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and claimed. 7

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a broken front elevation, partly in section, of a blind provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of the same on the line a: 00 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the blind, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the attachment which is secured to the blind.

The frame or casing 10 has the usual vertical grooves 11 in opposite sides, in which the blind 12 runs in the usual way. The blind shown is a common form of sliding blind; but my attachment may be applied to any kind of a blind which slides in a groove. On one edge of the blinds 12that is, in one of the stiles--are Vertically-aligning recesses 13, in each of which are two shoulders 14 and 15. Although still more shoulders may be provided if necessary, but one shoulder in each recess will usually be sufficient, and these shoulders are adapted to engage the hooked ends 16 of the spring-arms 17, which arms are secured to aslidingabutment 18 near the center of the same, and this abutment is held to the blind by the arms and is adapted to slide in the back portion of one of the grooves 11. The abutment 18 when held to the blind, as described, moves vertically with the blind,

and the pressure of the arms causes the blind to be held tight enough, so that it will not rattle, and the friction of the abutment on the back Wall of the groove 11 serves to hold the blind at any desired height. The spring arms 17 may have their ends hooked upon either the shoulder 14 or 15, according to-the depth of the groove and the width of the blind, and by having one or more shoulders in each recess 13 it will be seen that the attachment may be adjusted so as to make up for any variations in the width of blinds or the depth of grooves in various windows. 1

It will be seen that the attachment described is extremely oheap, that it may be easily applied to a blind, and that a blind when provided with the attachment may be easily inserted in the sliding grooves, as when the blind is placed in position the springs may be pushed back so as to lie flatwise'upon the abutment 18, and when the blind is in place the springs will cause it to assume a correct position.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the sliding frame 12, provided in one vertical edge with an upper and a lower recess forming shoulders, of the vertical sliding strip or abutment 18, having 011 its inner face oppositely-projecting springs 17, the outer ends of which are hooked, as shown at 16, to separably engage said shoulders and move the strip with said frame, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination,with the sliding frame 12, provided in one vertical edge with an upper and a lower recess, each having two shoulders 14: 15, of the abutment having on its inner edge two oppositely-projecting springs,

the outer ends of which are hooked, as at 16,

to separably engage either the shoulders 14 14 or 15 15, according to the width of windowframe, substantially as set forth.
