LAM P-CHIMNEY CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,393, dated March 8, 1892.
Application filed September 30, 1891 Serial No.407i328. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. DRURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Girard, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Chimney Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.
The invent-ion relates to improvements in lamp-chimney cleaners.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device which will be simple, inexpensive, strong, and durable, adapted to hold a cloth, paper or similar material, and capable of forcing the same against the inner surface of tubular articles-such as lamp-chinr neys, globes, and the like-to remove dirt and stains from the latter.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and point-ed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lamp-chimney cleaner constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is detail perspective View of the arms.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a lamp-chimney cleaner, consist ing of a handle 2 and a pair of divergent spring-actuated arms 3, which are constructed of a single piece of spring-wire and are provided at their inner ends with a shank 4, which is integral and is formed by doubling the wire and is inserted in the handle 2. The arms are provided at the inner termini of their shanks with coils 5, which throw the arms apart and force their outer ends against the side of a tubular article, such as a lampchimney, globe, or the like. The outer ends over them, and to force the same against the inner face of a tubular article, such as a lampchimney, globe, or the like, and the roughened outer faces of the pad-frames prevent a cloth or piece of paper from slipping. The arms are adapted to force a cloth or paper into a swell or contraction, and by means of the coils 5 they readily conform to the inner surface of a lamp-chimney, globe, or similar article.
It will be seen that the lamp chimney cleaner is simple,inexpensivein construction, is strong and durable, and is adapted to readily remove dirt and stains from the inner surface of a lamp-chimney or similar articles.
What I claim is A lamp-chimney cleaner comprising a bandle and the divergent arms provided with a shank inserted in the handle and having coils at the inner ends of the arms and provided at their outer ends with approximately semispherical pad-frames consisting of a series of coils, the ends of the arms terminating at the centers of the coils, substantially as described.
